Did Ford F150 from 1992-1996 or F250 1997 ever come with stock original trailer brake switch when ordered with trailer package?
Or are only after market ones available?
Almost been a year, and I have some parts ordered to give a what I think is close enough for a factory looking brake controller.
What I have purchased, and is currently in the mail is the following:
- 2005-2008 Ford factory Trailer Brake Controller(TBC) unit
- 2002-2019 Ford factory Brake Pressure Transducer(BPT)
- BPT plug with wire
- 2005-2008 Ford factory TBC dash plugs
I know some are saying "it ain't going to work, you need CAN-bus". Well, actually no. CAN bus only talks to the gauge display unit for 2005-2008 to display "Trailer Connected" or "Fault Codes".
The output of the TBC is dependant on the input from the manual lever, or input from the hydraulic pressure transducer.
Here are some pictures of what I have coming, and will post pictures as I install the unit:

I am interested to see if this works. I have an aftermarket controller on my '96 F250 that I won't have an immediate use for once the truck is running again and I think it is an eyesore, but I figured I would keep it just in case ever needed it. Might be worth doing this conversion if you can figure it out!
my friend has electric brakes on his trailer he got for hauling cars, but his brakes weren't working so i rewired them. he had the brake controller but didn't have it adjusted so when he towed the trailer and hit the brakes all 8 brakes stopped him real quick ( four on the pickup and 4 on the trailer). he called me and asked about the brakes and i told him about the little **** on the side of the controller. when there is no load turn it down but when you have a load turn it up. it worked he went from spokane to montana no problems.
I now have all the parts in hand, and also all electrical schematics so I know where to wire each plug.
All parts are brand new, just have to wire the plugs.
One thing I am not sure about how to do, and that is mounting of the Brake Pressure Transducer(BPT).
The factory 1994 F150 master cylinder has no hole w/threads for the BPT, but looks like there is a boss that could be drilled and tapped for it.
Mine has cruise control, but the master cylinder does not have the cruise control release switch on master.
So, I have three(3) options:
1. Use master cylinder with the cruise switch boss thread, and hope the thread pitch is the same for the BPT
2. Use a T connection, tap into front brake line, thread BPT into the T.
3. Another place to insert the BPT??
Progress, huge I think.
Re-pinned a pig tail to connect to the factory unit.
Supplied power to three places, one ground, unit powered on.
Connected a light bulb to the trailer output.
Unit powers on, doesn't detect trailer until manual lever is pushed.
Light bulb lights up, with variable power.
Next, is to connect transducer for variable auto input.
Here is a proof of concept video,(i'm not a videographer, excuse the poor quality).
Shows it can work without the CAN bus, which to me is strictly for fault warning.
Note that the red wire does nothing as an input, could be an output., this could be because the design is to apply brake pressure through the transducer.
Here are actual parts ordered:
-Hydraulic Pressure Transducer Sensor 2L1Z-2B674-AA For Ford 03-19 Super Duty
-05 thru 07 Super Duty F250 F350 OEM Ford In-Dash Trailer Brake Control Module
-Brake Line Pipe Brass M12x1 Female to M10x1 Male Fitting Connector Coupler
These are the plugs required to plug into the back of the TBC:
-Tekonsha 3045-S Brake Control Wiring Adapter for Dodge and Jeep
-HIGHER MEN 3Pcs Plug 10 Pin Waterproof Auto Connector 7282-6455-40 7283-6455-40 (Color : Female)
It’s looking great so far! Thanks for the link over. Do you have the wiring diagram/pin out for the 2005-2008 controller? I can help with sorting out the wiring. Mine had a plug in the harness for a standard aftermarket controller, but I want to do an integrated install.
My 1996 f-250 MC has a port for a pressure switch. Was a 460 gas engine with cruise control.
