2005 Ex with 9,500 miles - value?
What would a bone stock 6.0 powerstroke Ex be worth today with 9500mi on the odometer? No rust, mint condition, never winter driven. No egr delete etc... dealership condition less 15,000 miles and annual synthetic oil changes. Probably used to Trailer a boat in the summer.

personally I would be scared to death of a 6.0 that hasnt passed the 75k mark…. by then the ones that are going to blow up have done so.
but some idiot will propbaly pay you big money because they dont know better. even though I see low milage ones sit on Craigslist forever at 25k Id still start at 30k and see what kind of action you get.

I think it all boils down to your finicial situation and intended usage of the vehicle.
if its just a weekend toy and you have money to burn then by all means, pay the man his money and dump 10k into "bullet proofing" it.
if you need reliable transportation then dont buy a 6 oh no ! but if you must have one I personally would look for a 75k + that has all the work already done to it and 12K would be my personal "burn" money I would gamble on it. ( I see plenty of nice 6.0 Ex go for that around here in Northern CA ) I will never again own a 6.0 as my depended on mode of transportation. oh and get AAA

fwiw… we have plenty of 25k-30k askers for sale around here and their ads never seem to go away, unknow if they ever sell them or just give up.
but the ones that are priced right seem to go pretty quick.
just a quick search of NorCal and this one one is a recent post, me thinks it will sell pretty quick for $10-12k
Note the new motor

A Cummins conversion can cost big (by my standards at least) money even if you're doing all the work yourself. If paying someone, it gets stupid. So, $29G's isn't necessarily out of spec. As long as the base vehicle is completely sound. And by that I mean, the conversion was done well enough for you to look at it under the hood and think "that looks factory", there's NO rust ANYWHERE, all of the gauges work as intended, and the interior is in good condition. Not to mention, any suspension work needs to be up to par and tires and wheels need to be serviceable for the foreseeable future.
Ultimately, it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it. If I were gonna spend that kind of cash for a vehicle that's 14 years old and has a conversion, it better be spot on.

I personally Like the 5.9 swap and would dig having one ( especially over a 6.0 ), resale or as I call it "exist strategy" may be a concern, they are cool just not for everybody.
if you are dead set on a diesel why not get the 7.3 ?
oh and ExSwap is dead on, for 15k that conversion better look like it was factory done, sadly many people either cut corners or simply don't have the skill to do a righteous job

The only concern I see is that the truck sat and these trucks don't like to sit, so things may like to leak. If he bought the truck new, it was driven less than 700 miles a year.
I say go drive it and see how it does. Take it on the freeway stretch it's legs and see how it performs. Crawl under it and see if there are any leaks after driving it.
I've been working on these trucks since late 2009 and I've seen people unnecessarily "bulletproof" a 6.0 when all they require is proper care. I was one of those people...
That truck probably hasn't been to the dealer for much if anything, so you'll need to consider the following:
-Dummy Plugs
-Stand Pipes
-STC Fitting
-Blue Fuel Spring
-Cooling system flush
IF the heads aren't blown or leaking, don't mess with it. As long as these trucks are cared for, they don't give woes unless the PO takes shortcuts and doesn't maintain the truck. Ask me how I know...

I'll let you fall in love with the stuff you like and there are positives with that Ex but I will point out the bad.
1. K&N filter. just my personal rule but as soon as I open the hood and see one of those I walk away.
2. Batteries to small Optima Red Tops are good batteries just to small for the aplication. ( you want a 850CCA with 150 minute reserve )
3. Pit Bull Rocker Tire. decent tire for a dedicated trail rig, horrible street tire.
4. I dont even need pics to know that suspension is Janky. ( $1500 fix if you can DIY )
5. Judging by the leaking TRE the steering likely needs some TLC
6. Bumper Fitment… if the guy can not install a bumper correctly do I trust he can do a motor swap ? I question his workmanship
but thats just me, I buy a few Excusions a year and look at many so that is just my quick glance, I am sure there is more to be seen in person but from those pics I would walk away unless that is the sort of project you are intrested in, in which case 15k seems steep to me considering.

by 2009 the ones that were driven regulary had likely already blown up if they were going to do so. Not to discredit your hands on knowledge or the work you do but I dont think you realize what a nightmare the 6.0 was when brand new. You do fine work and I would take mine to you any day, but you are working on the ones that survived and I think you are spot on with the advise if it isnt broke dont fix it….assuming it had made it past teh 75k mark. My point to the OP is at 9500 miles you just dont know if you have a runner or a grenade. for 30k I would not take that gamble.

get me pics of the front and rear suspension and I will detail what the owner did, My comment is based on the ride height being to tall,
I am familiar with most of the spring offering available for the Ex and to get the height that Ex is at ( to tall for what I consider decent handeling ) I suspect he used blocks in the rear and hangers in the front.
