I am looking to install the 8” sync 3 setup I purchased from a 2018 f-150 into my XLT 2018 f-250 with the 4.2” screen. I have read as many posts as I can on this and haven’t found complete info on whether this will be plug and play. I know I will need a way to power the usb hub and have harness by hextall making me an adapter. I do have the ACM from the f-150 as well and am wondering if there would be any advantages to installing this as well.

Does anyone one have any experience or knowledge of any issues or hang ups I will run into? Thanks in advance.

Well it is definitely not plug and play, seems to essentially be the same setup as the 17 trucks. It will need an adapter harness, but am getting walked thru the steps and will post results when I have them.

 

So I received my harness from harness by hextall today, awesome guys btw. So after getting a couple additional parts needed such as the powered usb hub, a new usb cord (direct from ford or from HBH), I was able to finish this up today. Now the system I used was from a ‘18 F-150, non navigation which I didnt Care about since it is CarPlay capable. This system using the harness provided was plug and play, which kind of surprised me. Everything seems functional, including the backup camera and CarPlay, very excited for this screen and its capabilities!

 

Where did you order the radio from?

 

Bought it off eBay.

 

Thought I should Note that there were some eventual changes I had to make with forscan to get audio to work while using my phone. Also have an issue with the compass in the info display fighting with the APIM but that may be because I didn’t install the gps antenna? Not sure. Other than that I love It!
