Every time I take a vehicle in to have any work done, major or minor, I clean it. My thought is that the person working on it will notice how clean it is, see that I care, and try to keep it that way. Makes sense to me but has never worked out. Either there is new damage like you're experiencing, or its dirtier than when I dropped it off. Wheres the pride and care these days.

I always pop my own center caps off. Its still very difficult to not damage the finish on the wheels even when you use a rag. To be honest the wheels are a terrible design in reguards to prying the caps off. Best i figure it would be best if i scratched my wheels as opposed to someone else. I do agree that no one in the automotive service idustry takes pride in what they do anymore. Its honestly insane.

Thanks! Made it from a 1/4" thick x 2" diameter steel ring and some 1/2" x 1/8" steel flat bar from Ace Hardware. Beat the bar into shape, cut a section off to leave the hook, grind the chrome off the ring and weld. After using the OEM lug wrench to remove the caps, I figured that rubber covered tip would not last long and would start scratching the rim. Plus it was awkward to get it into the cap's slot. I can now keep one hand on the cap to prevent it from falling onto the ground while using the lug wrench with the other hand. Make and sell it? I'm afraid my hourly rate for such work would make for poor or zero sales.
