Door pull straps?

My '78 custom f100 has pull straps on the doors. They look like the could possibly be factory. I'm wondering if anyone can verify if this was a factory option or was it something the po installed?

These would not have come on a Custom or Ranger. Were installed on front/rear doors of 1973/79 F250/350 Crew Cabs, 1977/79 Regular/Super Cab Ranger XLT's and 1978/79 Lariats.

LTD's and Thunderbirds also came with pull straps, so who knows what the ones on your truck came from that a previous owner installed.

Thanks number. Do you have information regarding what was included on a 1978 custom? I was under the impression that it was one of those get what you ordered type situations. That any option could be ordered on a custom. Mine looks to be pretty base other than power steering, power brakes, 302 4-speed. Tailgate is even void of any script. No side trim. But truck has been repainted. I know he removed the badges from the cowl at the time of repaint. I'm not sure about removal of other trim or not. No under dash entry lights, no intermittent wipers, no glove box or ashtray light, no sway bars, no AC, round headlights, farmer rear bumper, e t c.

If the tailgate isn't embossed with Ford I would think it's been replaced with import.

Custom was a bare bones "stripper" aka "price leader" truck, sold as a Cab and Chassis.

1977/79: Standard Equipment. 300 I-6; 3 speed M/T (except F350); heater, disc brakes (manual disc brakes on F100 2WD); left hand 'Passenger Car" type outside mirror; vinyl seat; rubber floor mat.

Pickup beds were optional as were V8 engines, 4 speeds and A/T plus a gazillion other options.

All tailgates have FORD embossed on them. If FORD not present, tailgate replaced by a reproduction aftermarket made in China.

Your first post says 77 F150 Ranger XLTs should have these on the front doors? Mine has the regular armrest door pulls.

I wonder how much it cost Ford to have all of these little variations in trim, especially considering it was mostly installed by hand...

They were probably an option.

The only truck specific part numbers were for 1973/76 Crew Cabs. 1977/79 F100/350 Regular/Super/Crew Cabs used the same door pull straps (handles) as 1975/79 Econolines.

Here's what I have.

It's in addition to the armrest grab handle which is still there.

Not digging the color. Going to try to Source some black ones if possible or maybe paint these black. It's the go-to. I use this every time to shut the door instead of the armrest. Even though I did Source some metal cups for the armrest and have those to paint and install.

Really? Factory? Totally not what I was expecting based on your description.
