Lug Nut Socket Size?

Dumb question, but I’m getting ready to rotate my tires for the first time myself. What size socket do I need for the lug nuts? I live about 25 min from the nearest hardware or automotive store and don’t want to have to make multiple trips into town.

Also, for those of you that have rotated your own tires, any tips or advice? Already have a torque wrench and breaker bar, so I’m good there.

I think a 7/8 deep socket is what I use. IIRC 150 is the tq setting.

you'll also need a jack and jack stands to make it not a pain in the ***.

jk mine i use is 13/16 on my f250

165 lb/ft according to the owner's manual.

Honda, close but no cigar.

My torque wrench only goes to 150. Guess it’s time to go shopping...

Get you a torque stick that size and foot pounds. Makes it easy.

lol close enough! a grunt and a fart is about 165 if your torque wrench only goes to 150 like mine does.

This isn't a 1/2 ton truck you're dealing with any more. Time to man up and buy a real torque wrench. I don't want to read a thread about how your wheel fell off.

So far the answers have run the gamut from 21mm, 22mm, 3/4", 13/16", to 7/8" - while all close I think it really does depend on exactly what truck and what year you are looking for, or we are all fine with a little "play" in our sockets

The nuts on mine have a sheet-metal trim/cladding. Any slightly oversize socket or a 12-point socket will roll on that cladding and then you'll be hooped. Experienced on my trailer with similar nuts - right-size socket, but 12-point. They should be outlawed.

Those shenanigans belong on titantalk. If my wheel falls off i'll call ford. according to their service records they rotated the tires at my last service. (they clearly did not though)

lmao true. although 22 and 7/8 are the same. I went through my sockets and found the one that was the best fit. its in the toolbox in the truck, not gonna go look when the OP can just go grab a socket set and do the same
