Seat back is incredibly HOT while cooling

Has anyone found a solution from Ford regarding the heat output of the front seats? Mine also makes a lot of noise, air blowing, while running.

I wish Ford (or anybody else) would make a truly high quality, comfortable cloth seat for their upscale models.

I'm not wild about leather. Never have been. It's good for belts, dressy jackets and shoes and -- That's about it.

It's hot in the Summer and cold in the Winter. It takes too long to cool off and too long to warm up. It's slippery, makes you sweat and generally sucks.

People say, "Well, it lasts longer than cloth". Not really. You take care of a quality cloth upholstery and it will last every bit as long as leather. Maybe longer.

Leather likes to separate at the seams, shows wear patterns on the edges of the seat from mounting and dismounting, it splits, cracks, peels and -- Basically sucks. Plus, it is expensive as HELL to repair if you damage it. OEM slip covers can run into the thousands. And sewing in a new panel isn't always an option.

The only other thing that's worth a darn about leather is -- It smells good when it's new.

As to your problem with it blowing hot? Do you have the remote start? I assume not.

Sorry to say this but at this point it's all that's left -- Sucks to be you.

Sorry

I appreciate you taking the time to write such a lengthy, yet unhelpful, response.

Yep, what a ridiculous response..... some people.

OP- I notice my seat backs get warm, but not overly hot while the seat coolers are running.

There are a few threads on this here but a ton of them on F150 forums. (Same seats, same issue.) It's a very common complaint. Here is the solution many have went with.

This worked for me. The kit redirects the air flow so that the heat doesn't get trapped inside the seat back. Install is pretty easy, took me maybe 25 minutes to do both front seats.

Apparently the 2018 Fords have corrected the problem. The F150 forum link shows they went back to the old style fan system. I wonder if that could be retrofitted to our 2017's.

Yes, the kit works fine in the 17 SD. The kit will work with anything prior to the 18 updated seats.

Well, I'll have the dealer take a look and go from there. Thanks.

I wonder if it's possible to convert our 17's to the updated 18 system and how complicated it will be.

You wouldn't want to. The 18's are going from cooled seats to ventilated seats. No more cold air. Just a fan blowing. We have a similar system on my wife's X5. It's absolutely useless.

I drove nekkid.

My cooled seats are a bit on the noisy side but they work good enough for me to accept the noise as a reasonable trade off.

the '18s SUCK....that is they don't blow air onto the individual, they SUCK the heat away from the individual....apparently this is how porsche does it.

If i had any complaints about our truck it would be -

1) the Air Conditioning system is WEAK over all - much weaker than the system in my 2004 crew cab f350.
2) the whats don't really cool that well...and they're noisy when on its highest cooling level.
