1968 Ranger short bed

My first pickup I ordered from City Motors in Cartersville, GA. I took delivery May 24, 1968. 1968 Ford Ranger F100, 390 v-8 engine, 255 hp and Selectshift Cruise-o-matic (c6) transmission. Short bed (115" wheelbase) styleside with twin-I-beams and 1,250 lb flex-o-matic rear suspension. Deluxe radio was AM with push buttons. Standard cab with Ragoon Red paint, bright red interior, white headliner and sun visors. My Dad saw it and said "Son take care of it and it'll last you a long time." It's going on 50 years.

Wow nice truck. Did you special order it? It looks like you ticked off all the options. I bet if you got a Marti report you'd find a very low production number in that configuration.

Added

I had the front end aligned one time when the truck had about 200 miles on it, and in 1970 added dual exhaust and a Ford air conditioning system. As the tires wore out I wanted bigger tires, so I got 8 1/2" Argent wheels, which brought on a need for power steering. In 1990 I added Ford power steering and booster brakes. Stablilizer bars front and rear added in 1994, Crane electronic ignition in 1996. Ford AM/FM stereo radio added. Repainted base/clearcoat PPG Ragoon Red at a cost of $2000. The original Goodyear Power Cushion spare tire (8.15 x 15") has never been used. Motor and transmisson have never been rebuilt, still runs strong.

There were 285,015 F100 Styleside pickups assembled in 1968, so I doubt that any of them are rare.

The rarest 1968 F100's would be: With factory installed Flatbed: 16 // With factory installed Stakebed: 98.

That's about as good as it gets. When you do something you really do it right!

Nice truck!

Okay so how many of those had a short box? with Rangoon Red? with 390? with Ranger trim? with auto trans? with flex-o-matic? with a/c? with power steering? with power brakes? See what I mean by "in this configuration"? Not too many I'd bet. (although the op has since stated some of these were added later)

I don't consider this truck to be rare...at all. The OP added the A/C (Which type? There were 3) in 1970, the P/S & P/B in 1990.

The styled wheels are from a 1982/83 F100/150 or 1984 F150.

OP hasn't posted a pic of the Warranty Plate, the only way to verify the 390/C6, Ranger, Rangoon Red (Candyapple Red was also available) and if it was a DSO (Domestic Special Order).

The only other option that I wanted was a 4 barrel carburetor and that wasn't available. In 1970 a friend, who was a parts manager at the local Ford dealer, called and said he had a new A/C conversion kit that would fit my truck, fits below dash, no in dash vents. He included 6 cans of r12 freon for $100, I installed it, had a a/c tech install freon and it still works. I don't know the year of the ac. In 1990 I found a red & white 1969 Ranger long bed with a blown 360 engine, I bought the ps & pb and everything needed with them and installed them. The Argent wheels came off a 1987 and the radio. I'm glad I didn't get a stake or flat bed.

Post a pic of the dash showing the A/C bezel. If the bezel is bolted under the center bottom of the dash, it's dealer installed Economy A/C

Number Dummy lives to downgrade peoples trucks. It's what gets him out of bed in the mornings at the nursing home.
