1978 Ford F150 I call Brutus.

Hey everyone,I'm new to this forum but a long time lover of trucks I have a 1978 F150 2 wheel drive , 3 speed on the column , with the 300 inline. I've done a few things to make it run better with not much trouble at all but now I'm having an issue. I have a spindle going bad on the drivers side front and can't find a replacement anywhere. 2 questions.
1.Does anyone know of anyone that has a spindle i need?
2. Does anyone how hard it is to fit a newer F150 front suspension and steering assembly under my 1978?
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated .

Welcome to FTE.

Where, in the country, are you? You ought to be able to find the spindle you need pretty easily. If there are none around you, certainly you can find one on the internet, and have it shipped. I'm sure someone on here has some for sale.

Meangreen92, I live in Kentucky and everywhere i call, i get the same old song and dance. "God, we don't have anything that old. Most everyone around here has crushed everything and as numberdummy said, the parts are obsolete. No new parts. If I can't find anything before it completely goes,i'll have to look at a front end conversion.

There are tons of used ones out there. If you want new you will have to go with a drop knuckle/spindle.

Try here.. best used part site out there. Links all junkyard nation wide. I used 40006 for a Ky zip, showed 5 within about 100miles for under $50.

If you're near Northern Ky, we do get a few of them through the pick-and-pulls here in the Cincinnata metro area. Bessler's in Hebron had two of them a few months ago.

What is going bad? The spindle itself is just a large cast piece and very rarely needs replacing. The wheel bearings and the kingpin are the only wear items on these, and both are still available. Can you describe more what you mean when you say the spindle is going bad?

Wyrm73. I had a wheel bearing fail and chew up my spindle a bit. Now it's making my outer wheel bearing fail prematurely. It's slowly smoothing off the bottom of the spindle where the bearing rides.
