Filling holes? Let's not get too carried away now. Tailgate is looking great. Taking on a project like a tailgate is a perfect job. I have a pretty messed up one from my jailbar tonner that I would LOVE to attack in this cold dreary weather. Welding, pounding, grinding, working up a bit of sweat, but I can't do anything in the shop because this danged woodie is always there and it isn't driving out anytime soon. I need small victories, not 5 year projects. Gets discouraging. Glad to see your tailgate. Thanks!!!

I have made more progress. I used phosphoric acid to get rid of the remaining rust, then added some paint to the parts that would be covered up. Then I riveted the parts back together:

Looking good.
I'm going to run after that T bed this week, see what else I can drag home. Not sure what I'll do with it.

Thanks WB! The T bed is kind of a diamond in the rough.

To those of you in other parts of the country and maybe heard of Seattle Washington and the rain forests and the gloomy weather, there is a mountain range that stops most of the rain coming off the pacific. It is called the Cascade range. Look at those T fenders. They would be compost on my Western side of the Cascades. They look brand new while of course they weren't housed in a heated garage. Most of my trucks I ever buy come from 'the other side'. I can be there and back and sleep in my own bed in one day and it's like the trucks came from a different planet. It's like getting 5000.00 worth of body work in a day.

My Model T was bought in Livingston MT in the early '70s then sat in a loafing shed outside of Billings MT until about 2010 when it was put in a garage and then transferred to my place in early 2014 where it has been inside. It is actually very wet here for about 90 days straight in the winter.

I have decided to set the body and the bed back on frame for now, and have set the frame on the front and rear springs so that I can move it around. I am going to work on the body etc. and try to make it all fit. Then, remove it and finish the running gear later.

I used to like you guys..., until I saw all these photo's of nearly rust free vehicles and parts! Lol.

That's a nice collection of jailbars and the T is a beauty. Out here in the north east, we often have no choice- were forced to work with the "compost" because that's all that's left! Once in a while you find some decent stuff but it is nowhere near as nice as your original stuff.

Steve
My folks moved us back East to Massachusetts when I was 14. I already loved old vehicles and couldn't believe how few were around. At 21 I got married and drove back to Washington with my new bride. I bought a '54 3/4 ton GMC in central Ca on our way. Now when I buy another vehicle I often look in the dry arid areas and get ahold of some gypsy car haulers to bring it to me. Usually seems that 900 bucks with bring something non running from Arizona or the Dakotas. You should consider this approach.

Your right. Shopping for vehicles always gets better results in the nicer climates.
You can either pay for shipping or pay for replacement parts, welding and bodywork supplies!
