I have an 89 f150 with 302 it died so i found an 86 f250 whole for 200 it has a 351who in it i want to use the motor to put in my truck but i want to know every thing about that motor so if anyone could help me i feel free to thanks is that year a roller cam?
You will have fun putting a carbed engine in a EFI's spot under your hood.
Think about all the things that have to be done:
Fuel tanks: replace tanks or remove fuel pumps (all three of them), run new fuel line.
Accessories: do you have the original accessory setup on the 351HO? The sepentine belt system will not work from a 302 to a 351. I not sure that you can adapt the serpintine belt to a non EFI 351. you will have to use the alternator, power steering, AC (if equipped), and their respective plumbing and wiring in your 89 without having to do a lot of work.
Computer: You will have to remove it and all the emmisions stuff.
You don't have a E4OD trans do you? Hopefully a C6. Or a manual.
Ignition: you will have to have a complete Duraspark-II system including vacuum advance dizzy, the ing. module, vacuum hose, and the wire harness that connects them.
I'm sure that there are a number of things that I am forgetting or haven't thought of yet. I have been think about doing a EFI to Carb conversion on the 351w i've got in my '88. Right now I'm only gathering information and knowledge about what I can and can't do, and what I have to do to make it work. It's overwhelming thinking about all the stuff you have to do just to get the motor in, let alone make a old system work in a newer truck.
Good Luck. Let me know if you do it, I am very interested in the problems you will more than likely encounter, and may be able to help. And to answer your original question: No, Roller cam 351w's did not come about until 95 or 96, and your s is too old even for the coversion kit that fit (I think) 93-95 351's. sorry.
210 hp 310 torque right around that.
As for the fuel problem you just need to use the mechanical pump and disconect the wires for the electric pumps. There should be a way to use all of your acc you might have to rearange the bracets but shoulndnn't be to hard.
Now for what I think I would never never never go from efi to a carb. The carb thats on the 86 isn't that great. You will lose gas mileage and done right efi will give more power.
i am takeing out the whole efi system start from scrach i have a manual tranny im going to switch to vbelt get rid of all emmisions stuff i don't have to worry about that also do u know what i can use off the 302efi motor if anything and should i be happy with the swap with some bolt ons i ahve 38s on my truck now it was alright with the 302 but wish i had more bottom end if any on could give me some tips on what bolt on to start with it would help out like what cam headers is the stock carb alright and manifold or should i switch
All you need to do is remove the motor, all of the fuel injection wiring will go with it. All that's left is the harness to the computer (ending on the fender). You can leave the computer in but I would remove it too (it doesn't control the fuel pumps or anything else). Just use the distributor and box from the 351, no biggie. I wouldn't use the mech fuel pump though. I would use the stock pumps and lines. All you need to do is cut the fuel rail connectors off the lines and run them to a 3 port regulator (high press feed/carb feed/return). The motor just bolts in otherwise.
I would use an Edelbrock RPM with a Edelbrock or Holley 650 vacuum sec carb, a Comp XE256 cam and long tube headers. A good upgrade would be an MSD distributor and 6A box but not necessary.
before my 302 died i put a cam in it there is less than 100 miles on the cam i was wondering if i could use it in the 351 and if so is it a derect swap its also is my heads on the 89 302 motor better than the 86 351 ho motor
