Okay, the game went well, so I'll give another try at bringing world peace via FTE Offroad&4x4. On the topic of respect, I'm not saying these people that come in and show no respect (intentionally or not, not searching and expecting help is disrespectful) deserve the red carpet rolled out for them and that we should bow down to their every wish and whim. However, what I am saying is that you should think of this forum as if it were someone else's house. Rob, Carlene, and Jessi are renting offroad and 4x4 from FTE owners, and you/we are walking in with our shoes on and tracking mud all over the place and trashing it. How would you feel if someone walked into your house and asked your wife to show her ****, started cussing around your children, yelled at your dad who was visiting, got drunk and fell through the glass coffee table?
Now there is still a problem with the newbs coming in with their entitlement mentality, and that is also a serious problem in this country. They're walking into the house and demanding a free dinner without even doing anything to deserve it. Now, most people would offer this person their free dinner if the person were nice, courteous and respectful. We'd offer them a few drinks, and possibly even a couch to crash on for the night. (This is us sharing the info we have to "newbs" who are respectful and courteous).
What we have to remember is that while we are all friends more or less and can sling these insults around at each other, it is intimidating to people who have never posted before or don't understand the way the internet forums work. You also have to remember when people are searching on google, FTE is one of the first forums to come up, so you're going to have a lot of people who have never been on an bulletin board before and don't understand how they work, don't understand you should search first, or don't even know how. They also might not understand the concept of sticky threads. It's really not that hard to direct the person to the proper forum, or explain to them briefly how to search, and it doesn't take any more time than it takes to bash them. I know I'm guilty of slamming people and I tend to take it over the top as soon as I see something that I perceive as a new guy getting uppity, but I do try to help when a well thought out and formulated question is presented, even if I do get a jab in here or there.
Overall, I think we can compromise and have this place work for everyone. We can still have our fun at each other's expenses (the regulars), but in turn for that freedom I think we should do our best to make the new guys feel welcomed and help them if we can. Honestly, I think that we have been doing that more than ever before over the past few weeks, and I'm not really sure what's triggered all of the problems. I think that the bashing between each other has been a little over the top, and honestly getting repetitive and boring, but at the same time we always end up helping the new guys in one way or another - that is unless they refuse to listen, then IMO they're just asking for it. However, like I've said plenty of times before, if the mods don't want that going on then we have to respect that!! It is, afterall, THEIR house.
With all of that said, I think that if the moderation gets over the top (like the rest of the site), you guys may end up losing some valuable members that have a lot to offer. It is a choice the mods and, ultimately, the users of this forum have to make as to whether they want to follow whatever modified or non-modified set of rules or end up playing in the band or sitting on the sideline because they can't control themselves.

I don't know about Rob an/or Jesse, but I don't want to rule with an iron fist. The problem is we give a yard, ya all take a mile. I'm all for having fun but when any and everyone that posts in this forum that isn't from this little group gets chased off by insults, it gets noticed and pisses off more than just us 3 mods that watch over this forum.
As for respect, how can it be earned if the user is only allowed to make one post before getting slammed.
I also want the F word lost by all of ya all, no matter how you try to spell it. It is not necessary for every sentence to be that crude.
to mods-Would that help?
to regulars-does that sound reasonable?
