MASS Air conversion on a 92 F150

I just got done installing my mass air kit on my 92 F150, 351W. Having some trouble and wanted to see if someone else has the same setup.

I installed the Truck Mass air kit from here - IST Products

When I start the truck it runs as if the timing is off and the truck doesn't stay running for long, just a few seconds. I thought maybe it was because I didn't have any of the air intake connected and the MASS air sensor is right behind the air filter. So I loosely connected things and the truck doesn't act a whole lot different. I am not sure if connecting that made it better or not but the truck will not stay running and it really sounds like the timing is off. However, at one point it was running great but revved too high - to the point where I thought the engine was going to blow so I turned off the engine. I wasn't giving it any gas, this was just from idle.

I double checked the wiring at the computer and it seems all those wires are in the right spot.

Anyone have any experience with this?

What makes you say it sounds like the timing is off? Was the motor running fine before you added the kit?

It was running fine. I am doing this conversion because I will eventually put a new motor in the truck and the old computer system wouldn't have worked with the new motor.

I hear, what sounds like, pre-detonation and it smells like it is running rich. Also, it won't stay running. Sometime it will run for just a second or two and sometimes it will last 10-20 seconds but rough the whole time. Doesn't respond well when I press the gas pedal.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I put a 347 stroker in my truck and blocked my ears from all the opinion to put a carburator on it. The truck would start right up with a high idle and then shortly die, not long enough to check timing. In my case it eneded up being a high output coil I had installed. put the old original factory one on and it runs fine. I had lower the idle alot and it took a while I gues for the computer to figure out what was going on. The idle came down, but sometimes it would just go up to 1800 and then down to 600 without touching the gas. The more i drove it the betterit stabled out. Is the mass air meter calibrated for the injectors you are running?

I will see about going back to the original coil, right now I have an MSD coil on there.

As I thought about this more I realized I am having trouble describing the problem. In thinking about it, if I were to have a perfectly running truck and remove one (or two) of the wires, I would expect it to run but it would run rough, really rough. My truck seems to surge more than anything else. I do hear some backfiring as well.

I really hope to get this fixed.

hmmm, I also have a MSD 6a box (used for spark) and a MSD boost timing master box (for the supercharger). I wonder if any of those are causing the issue. I can easily remove them to test, as well as the coil (if I still have the old one). If any of the MSD boxes are the problem, that would suck if I can't use them.
