Look What I Found, It Did It's Job (With Pics)

Hello all, some of yaa may know before the summer I installed a Dieselsite coolant filtration system because I was concerned of all the contaminates and dropout that happens in our and I'm sure all cooling systems. My Dieselsite directions said to change out the first filter after 3 months. After running it after the 3 month period, I remember Springerpop saying as long as I had proper and consistant flow going into the degass bottle, I should be OK, which I was and it was still OK. I noticed a drip in my drive today and again, my DS billet housing was seeping again so this time I took it off and cleaned it up and applied some black Permatex hi-temp sealant, just a bead around the mating surface and reinstalled. At that time since the coolant was drained I decided to change the coolant filter and this is what I found. I backflushed the filter like Pop recommended and I strained it thru some coffee filters, one dark one but the same. Also, I changed from the gold coolant after 100,000 mile to the CAT ELC, and its been in there now at 132,500, so 32,500 miles, I think the coolant filter is doing it's job..

Thanks Eddie, can't have a thread without pics Lisa, cute advatar. Speaking of the housing, It leaked before and I swapped out the(extra) gasket but it decided to leak again so I used the Permatex this time because others used it, we'll see tomorrow, letting it sit plugged in to cure..

Looks good dear. Couldn't believe how much, wished I would have put the kit on when I got the truck but didn't know about this site then to be informed about it. Yes, I will let you know about the billet sealing this time, hope it holds, it better hold..

Great pics Mike, thanks. That's about how much came out of my filter after a thorough flush and one month of service...

I got a quite a bit in the first filter. Not much in the second and then changed to ELC after the third. I don't think I have to worry about it anymore. I did a thorugh flush when changing to the ELC and doubt there's anything left for the filter to trap. I had been thinking of removing it, but it's already there and is sort of a "piece of mind" kind of thing.

Precisely the reason to have a filter! There's proof it's doing its job.

That "sand" can't be good on impellers, seals, or shafts.

I'm impressed by the amount that you collected, too. I would guess I got only half what you did.

This might sound overboard but I'm going to save this debris and put it into a little very small capable bottle and throw it in the glove for informative purposes, help somebody with their decision to install one if they like, so to speak..

I've read that before and seeing some post before is what led to my decision to install this setup. I'm keeping my truck for the long haul so anyhting to extend its life, I'm all for it..
