New thread for the fire truck relay

Here's the new thread. Volunteer drivers, chime in. Persons interested in donating parts or money, post it up. People wanting to loan small funds, list it. We've got a strong enough group willing and able, all we need to do now is get it organized and mapped out. I'll be contacting CNN, and NBC news and some of the radio stations for media support.We just need toiron the plan out, and get her on the road. This could be an example as to the unity the brotherhood of Ford truck enthusiasts share. We may start a trend with this.

Hey, Joe, in addition to contacting the media, how about contacting FoMoCo? Don't you think their marketing department would drool over this story?

And maybe they'd offer some kind of assistance, be it financial or otherwise.

Now that's a darn good idea. I'm always calling them, or e-amiling them, and that never even crossed my mind. Thanks.

OK, I've contacted CNN, NBC, and Ford. We'll see what they all think.

Ok, I'll rehash my part... I can store it indefinite at my parent's farm at Marengo, Iowa, where we can do the necessary repairs. I also make some trips to South Dakota, so there is a possiblility of getting it to Omaha or such as well, or further west at Huron, SD.

I'm stuck up here in AK for the duration of the busy summer tourism season. I'll be down in America in October, though, and could use some vacation time then to help drive it west. Let me know if you're still looking for drivers in October.

I will reiterate what I stated earlier threads, partially so I get notifications on whats going on in this thread. I will be up in the area of the truck on may 13 and 14 and could possibly get it to my place and work on it for road worthyness which would bring it about 140 miles further west too. I won't have much time to work on it up there though, so would like to find out before hand if it will make it this far as is. I am not sure my car trailer is big enough to haul it, unless someone has a gooseneck trailer around the Chariton IA area that would be willing to let me use for moving it this far.

I'll also reiterate what I said in the Nebraska thread... I can help you out from Omaha, or western Iowa. Depending on the route, I can go west to central Nebraska or north/west into South Dakota.

Im also still willing to take part in this. I can help out between Omaha and Sioux Falls or anywhere else in a 200 mile radius of Sioux City. I have a digital camera and can post progress pics on here.

I'll restate;

I'll kick in some gas money and I might me able to arrange a hotel room or two along the way.

Find some local car clubs along the way...I'm sure they would help too

Maybe see if there is a Fire Apparatus supply place along the route also

This is a fantastic project
Bobby

Awesome. As soon as we get enough people to at least get an unbroken chain along the route, we can figure out a schedule. As to it making it to monsters place, I think it would. It would be an interest run, but it should make it with out too much trouble. I'm still directing other threads to here, so we'll get a list soon. Also, monster, if you want to pick it up, then that's great. I'll check into getting some temporary insurance for it. Also, I came up with a new plan today. I revised my goals for this truck. I think I want to do this every year, starting next year if it's restored in time, and use it as a fundraiser for St. Judes, and Make-A-Wish. We can call it something like Fire Trucks Across America, or something. I am also checking into local businesses to sponsor this delivery relay, and I will be gathering donations for fuel from my co-workers as well. If everyone pitched a buck, we could get more than enough money together to pay for fuel, oil, parts, emergencies, etc. along the way. I'm doing some digging, and I think we can make this an annual national event, and I know it would gather support from all corners of America. I'll contact St. Judes, and Make-A-Wish, and some radio stations, and I will contact my local fire department, and police department. If you guys want to hit up local stores, or shops for donations of parts, tires, and or money, go for it. I think we can make a real deal out of this, and it could last for years, and become a historical event in America.
