Door Lock

Just bought a 96 F150, only came with a single key for the ignition and it will not open the doors. Should they open them?, if yes, who and what is the cost to make the changes to the cylinder to match the ignition key?, or should I change the door cylinder and use a different set of keys?, and where to find it?
Thank you,
Rick

You can have a locksmith key it up for you or have the ignition rekeyed so your door locks will match your ignition. or you can go through the expense of changing the door cylinders and carry two keys to work the truck. Different areas charge different prices on locksmith work...auto supply should carry the locks. Usually the convence of one key to work all locks will work better, so you wouldn't break a key useing the wrong key in the wrong lock in the middle of a cold raining night.

it might have been in 1997, but some of these the dealer can look it up off the VIN and cut you a new one cheap. Otherwise, A locksmith can make them without pulling everything aparet, and it's not too bad. I did that on my old chevy, they came to my house and did it in the wasp infested garage on a hot day in august, and the charge was $113 for and ignition and door key.

It's probably only about $20 to $30 if you go in there
