Stopped over to the shop this am. Trucks been giving him fits.
Starter kicked the bucket while trying to diagnose issue.
Replaced ig coil and a magnetic thing in the distributor and checked timing.
Got it to start and run on idle but now stalls out when giving it gas.
He ditched the electric fuel pump and put it back to a mechanical.
I wouldn't tell him what to do, but I'd feed a little gas to it while trying to rev it up and if that does it I'd throw that Edelbrock as far as I could and put a 4160 on it. and if it doesn't fix it I would anyway. then I'd check the voltage to the coil if he hasn't already. weak spark can cause a lot of problems.

Appreciate the input! I told him to go ahead and replace the carb if need be. 4160 a holley I assume?
Yes, for your application I'd want a smaller CFM 4160 with an electric choke and the single feed. there are lots of options, that's just my preference.

Mechanic said mine has a manual choke. Guess that’s why it wouldn’t high idle when cold start. Manual makes no sense to me.
It should still high idle if it's adjusted right. manual chokes work fine for people who pay attention to things like that, go back far enough and you had to adjust your ignition timing as you drove. but today there's no need for that just put an electric choke on if you keep that carb.

I bought a Holley Brawler 650 with mechanical secondary and I couldn't be happier.
Sometimes it takes a little tinkering to get an electric choke to work perfectly.
Ipersonally loveelectric chokes. Its the only way to go.
