1977 F150 4x4 - Another Project
Remember the aluminum ones that had engine coolant going thru them?
YEARS ago a factory Ford Motorcraft carburetor instructor told me that they served two purposes, one provide some heat to the carburetor and the other was to cool the carburetor.
So there's a exhaust crossover in the in the old cast iron intake manifolds, how hot does the intake get right under the carburetor when it in the middle of the summer and its 100° outside??
The coolant going thru that spacer is only 180-190°,much cooler than the intake manifold so it helped keep heats away from the carburetor.
Most folks don't believe that but old George Rodin was an extremely educated man.
During WWII he calibrated air plane carburetors on flow benches running solvent thru them.
He taught me everything there was to know about Ford's 2700 and 7200 feedback variable venturi carburetors.
He showed me the most killer way to calibrate the cruise AF ration using a propane enrichment process.
You needed a dial indicator to adjust the CVR, cold enrichment rod for cold start up and cold drivability.
It didn't have a choke and the CVR just dumper raw fuel into the venturi."
The only purpose the accelerator pump served was for cold starting.
You also needed a water vacuum gauge to adjust venturi diaphragm.
The 7200 feedback carburetor used a feedback acuter to control engine vacuum supplied to the float bowl to control AF ratios instead of trying to meter fuel.
It was an amazing carburetor that provided excellent fuel mileage and drivability as long as some uneducated butcher never got his hands on it.
OK, I'm done.

Love your trucks.

Moved the blue seat back to the wife's truck.
Swapped in the bumpside marketplace seat to my 77 and I don't like how it sits, AT ALL. Back on marketplace it goes...
Went out to shed and got a seat I pulled out of an 89 f150 6 years ago, and cleaned it up and threw it in. Really happy with it, especially for the price.
Would a "two stage" power valve work for you? Motorcraft & Holley 2 Stage Power Valve 70-1000
Only 1-2 WOT pulls but in the throttle now and then just before secondaries open, a little around the yard hauling some posts and concrete. Most of the miles are two lane 55 with handfull of stops thru the town I live near.

FE's are pigs.

Just for you Kubota.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Honestly probably not any time soon, if ever... Based on too much reading at 460ord.com, My build pretty closely mirrors what Scott at PAM does. Id guess 420-440hp @ 4800ish and 520-540tq @3300ish at flywheel.. Right now with how much I value my time, I cant see using one of my precious Saturdays for it.
I bet next tank is less, probably 10-11?
Definitely happy with double digits....Of course I didn't build this for mpg
, but neat to see what it will do...I don't think I could keep my foot out of it for a full tank to really see what it would do..I cant believe how much quieter they are. 18” long body.
basically fabbed a new exhaust, used band clamps in case I want to change mufflers ro make it easy. Its not as nicely tucked up as before because of the offset, but thats ok.
fixed the rear exhaust bolt that got stripped during the initial install, really impressed with the graphite gaskets….no leaks even with one bolt stripped out.
First time ever using a helicoil kit, went surprisingly easy!
