This is more of a y'all might find this funny. Was putting the tow hitch on the F250 today & obviously needed to drill some holes for mounting. Needed to waller one out just a bit for the bolt & this happened.

I've never in my life seen a drill bit untwist itself before. Me thinks there may have been a distinct lack of heat treatment with this one.

But I did get the hitch on & all the electric brakes crap hooked up.

You did do the drill-jack method right? Best way to not get hot metal drill shaving down your sleeve or in your eyes. Now do not get carried away with the jack pressure.

You need 2 more "good"...well much better than the other 2 you bought from me earlier regular truck beds? And one is a long bed with a 1/2 ton axle/truck frame made into a trailer.

Learned the hard way many years ago, eye protection is an absolute must when drilling overhead. I've got a fancy welding hood that doubles as a grinding hood. So no jack method this time, didn't think about it at all.

I'll give you a call in the next day or so.

Not sure if I'm impressed or in shock. I've seen many bits break, but never seen one untwist.

Dent side adventure. Went from Gainesville Missouri to Mt Sterling Kentucky to pick up the 82 Cj7. Took the wife's F250 for the trip, we left Thursday and got home Saturday night. It's around about 1100 - 1200 miles round trip & while gas prices suuuuuuuuuck, it was better than I'd counted on, and her rig gets fed premium.

Hauled this trailer out for a friend.

And brought my car hauler back, which has been sitting in Kentucky for the better part of a year.

Trip went great, until about 3 hours from home in Sikeston Missouri & the fuel pump left the chat. That turned into a major pain in the backside. Absolutely no one within 150 miles had a new fuel pump & very little 3/8 fuel line, which is important. Because I'm pretty sure what filled the fuel pump was rust debris from the hard line flacking off & eating up the diaphragm in it, because I'm slick & only post filters in the fuel line.

Solution, full retard hillbilly.

Electric fuel pump self tapped to the floor.

Notice where that fuel line is routed from. Could only get 6 foot of rubber line period. You can guess where the 14 gallon boat tank was sitting.... then routed up through the inner fenders & right to the carb.

Super sketchy, but it got us the rest of the way home. Id have been much happier with the tank in the bed, byt that lack of fuel hose & the potentially holed rusty hard line.

And the obligatory Cj7 picture.

The second best straight six ever made (after the Ford 300]. The Jeep 258 inline six.

Not a bad trade for an old rifle.

Holy trip/fuel mod story, how did you get that jeep on the trailer? Skid steer or the winch? You know you almost got a pic that made the bigfoot in the cage look like it was on your trailer.

How to get a jeep on a trailer without axles in a few easy steps.

1. Send trailer home with a friend.
2. Let them do it, so you don't have to.
3. Go retrieve trailer at later date & time.

Now the steps that were taken by them. He lifted the front with an engine hoist & backed as far under the jeep as possible.

Then if you noticed, its sitting on an old hood. Theres a 12k winch on the trailer, so it was winched the rest of the way up.

I get to good back at some point & drag back a 1969 Cj5 I sold him a few years ago & recently traded back for.

Black one on the right. Has the little 225 oddfire V6 that was used back then. It's in many more pieces now, but the wife truly liked that Jeep. So it was kinda my anniversary / birthday gift to her by getting it back.

Let's play the "what is this axle" game. I yanked this from a rolling chassis probably 10 years or so ago. Then sent it on down the road maybe 5 or 6 years ago. It came back with the Jeep the other day.

To me it looks like the run of the mill 78-79 high pinion 3/4 & 1 ton Dana 44 with the dual piston caliper. Now what's got me scratching my head are the hubs (not the lock outs). It's hard to see, but they have a taper to them. I can't recall have seen before on another 78-79 Dana 44, only ever straight walls on the hubs from the lock out to the wheel mounting surface.

For reference. By tapered, I mean like the one in the background.

It's not a huge deal, more of a curiosity to me. It was a free axle & I needed some not beat to death lock outs for the 1 ton & everything from the C out for another idea that's later on down the road.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Looking at the differential deep webbing and the brake caliper mount bracket design, IMO does not look like a dent side front axle.

The shock mounts and cast spring pad look exactly 77.5-79 f250 dana 44 to me. Plus the obvious brakes, steering etc.

Bring a Trailer is great place to do some looking. (scroll down half way) https://bringatrailer.com/truck-4x4/...77&yearTo=1979
