Here is my vision. Cab and box from the 1973 F100 onto the 2011 frame with the coyote/6R80 and 4 wheel disc brakes. Both vehicles were rwd only and up here, that was not easy to find in a 2011. This is 4x4 country up here. This swap took about 6-7 hours last weekend and we were wiped after that. This weekend it is cold and snowy so I am going to start figuring out how to cut and weld the frame so it goes to the stock 133" wheel base of the 73 from the 145" wheel base of the 2011. On the 2011 it is a square tube frame that is put together in three sections unlike the 73 which is two full length C frames. The plan is to cut at the front frame section and slide the front and middle section apart. Cut what I need from the frame in the middle section then slide the two frame sections together to the length required and weld it together.
Plans:
Obviously the body swap from old onto newer chassis.
Get a stand alone Coyote/6R80 modified to work with the stock ECU.
Use the rad and cooling fans from the 2011.
Get a nice aftermarket shifter for the 6R80
Probably go with a Dakota Digital dash and the modules needed to make everything work but have the classic look.
This year i just want to make the truck run and drive and fix any issues that may come up. After that I start looking at interior and body.
Thanks for checking this out. Let me know what you think.
And here I am trying to figure out how to put a carbureted 460 ford and C6 in an 08 F450 where a 6.4 diesel once lived so that it will be more powerful and forever dependable. 😀
I imagine you’ll get great MPG and awesome stopping wiith a 2011 chassis underneath it.
Thanks.
I looked at all the builds online and I wanted to do a coyote swap. As i kept scrolling I was adding up the cost to do everything I wanted and that was when I came up with the plan of chassis swap. Put the old on new technology. Have the better brake system, better chassis, modern fuel system and the ability to drive the vehicle reliably while getting good fuel mileage. Any parts below the cab will be 2011 F-150 parts and above the frame will be the restoration parts that are easy to get now.
