Sand blasting would be quicker, but since I don’t have a good one, I would leave it in a home made electrolysis bath. After the third day I would hit it up with a little wire brush and it would look brand new.
Since it works line of sight with the electrodes, I rotate it around each day to get into all the areas. Afterward I wipe it down with a metal prep product so it doesn’t flash rust. I have some parts that I haven’t painted for almost two years and still no signs of rust.
here’s my brake booster linkage before paint.
Edit: I guess I posted the inside linkage. I can’t find a photo of the outside linkage.

Finally got the paperwork sorted out and tags for the truck. Had our maiden voyage out this weekend for gas and a few items from HEB. Who would have guessed a flat fill tube, half kinked at the frame rail don't take gas too fast. Only a couple more issues to sort out:
1) I cannot get my gauges to stay working. The gas and oil gauges are the key point of reference, as they randomly work and stop working.
2) It got warm on the way home, so i am going to try and flush it out again. Radiator seems ok, but who knows what the motor looks like inside.
I dig that truck! I've been there on the flat fill tube..
Thank you. Its a little crusty, but the price was good. The glass is all good, but I need to pull the front out to fix a few little spots and get a new seal.
On the trip out to get gas, the truck got hot coming home. I started Saturday with pulling the fan / clutch and replacing that. Took a pic of the fan incase I needed it.
Too
Sunday I pulled out the seat and nasty carpet in anticipation of putting on a seat cover. Turned out the seat cover was too small, so the seat went back in for now. Floors are solid and decently complete, although the edges are fiberglass. I will work on getting these repaired with steel. I also pulled the steering wheel off and rotated it one tooth counter-clockwise to better align it with straight.
Just came across your thread. That’s a good solid truck to bring back. I’ll be following your progress looks good so far. It reminds me of when I started mine all the excitement and imagination of what it will be when you get done. Awesome find.
