The Wife’s Truck
More power would be great but it runs pretty good the way it is.
We've all heard Carrol Shelby's quote,
"There in never enough horsepower..... just not enough traction"
I think this will be around 325ish/430-440 tq. Perfect for the intended use.
Geeked out on couple engine master episodes before bed last night including the cast manifolds, shorty and long tube headers again. Those LS cast manifolds are basically shorty headers though.
There was a good episode I found of speedway motors doing a test on a 604 chevy 350 circle trak motor. They ran rams horns cast iron manifolds, shorty block huggers and long tubes.
Verified I do in fact have a 400 with 4" stroke last night while throwing my weights around in the shop. Been emailing with Tmeyer, probably going to just roll with KB pistons. Read Thru @LandAndStone 's awesome 400 build thread (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...7-f100-11.html) and that spreadsheet he has made with different cam selections is amazing. Thanks again @LandAndStone

-18% for 6000 ft altitude (3% for every 1000 ft) would leave me 324 HP and 436 lb ft tq.
A loss of 6 hp and 8 lb ft tq from the stock 330hp and 444 lb ft tq at sea level.

Crank turned .010 under
Def was ran dry a bit, not surprised. I didn't prime it when i fired it cause honestly I didn't believe the guy that it was rebuilt.
The red rtv is about what I expected, at least he put it on oily metal. It comes off easy.
Crank is in great shape.

So heads are going to get corrected
Does Eddy or trick flow make 400 heads??
trick flow makes some really nice heads. Not in the budget.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
replaced front brake lines including extended hose from frame.
pass side hose came from behind seat of my 1977 when i bought it.
went ahead and got steering box and coupler pulled.
Next is hoses and pump I've had laying around for years.
going to pop rear shaft to verify bearing type
Re-curved the dizzy while in there. All in at 2500 rpm 15 initial 35* total. Needs a Vacc Advance canister, this one isnt adjustable and doesnt even start advance until about 15".
Installed new steering box, lines and fresh fluid. Bled it pretty easy. Installed new rag joint. Delayed doing rear wheel seals and brakes, fluid etc cause i needed her out of the shop. Rear brake shoes are almost new, auto adjusters need freed up as they needed good bit to get back in adjustment.
Glad I am building the 400 for this turd...knock knock knock....
Drives and runs great now, nice and tight, brakes work awesome.
Before. I used a mr gasket 925d spring in place of the heavy I had, and a bushing from an HEI kit and a little tweaking of the pin to dial her down from 32* mechanical advance to 20*. Lubed everything while in there.
Still needs alot of TLC...In Due time.
What's coming in the shop next??
Two big mistake I made with my '79..
#1, I was pickup ignorant when I bought my new 1979. Had I known more I would have bought an F-350 instead of my F-250.
#2, selling it back in back in 2013.
The wifes other truck.....hahaha. Spark plugs, oil change and air filter in her DD.
Tried to make a video thing but screwed i up
I wish I'd have never cut up my first 79 and turned it into a truggy, but many good times were had and great lessons learned.
I'd love to have a lift but I hate working under a lifted vehicle.
Back in 1974 I was working at a Texaco service station and I was under the owners car that he had set the lift to raise the car up.
It shifted while I was under it and it nearly came off and smashed me.
I've been nervous around them ever since.
