Just picked up an 83 F250 cab and chassis 4x4. It was a local telephone truck that they used for spraying, hence the seat up top. Looks like it was kept indoors and judging by the condition of the seat, dash, pedals etc I'm positive it's low mileage. Odo says 12xx, I find that hard to believe but after looking at everything it's believable anyway. It's a 460 and automatic. Plan is to swap the utility bed for a flatbed with my stepdad. All that said, I do have a couple issues. Fuel gauge and temp gauge are stuck at low. All the others work fine. I'm really new to Fords so this is all foreign to me, any common things to look for?
The fuel guage is pegged left with key off. With key in run they should move up according to the tank selected and that particular circuit should show the level. Switch tanks with the key in run does the guage change? I'm thinking you might be lucky and have a mechanical fuel pump and a three port fuel valve. Have you been to Garys Garagemahal site yet? You can look up the EVTM for your year and look up your wiring diagram. Depending on how your fuel handling is set up you could have a different path to trouble shooting the fuel sending unit guage issue.

Um. Kinda. So when I test drove it he had it on front tank and it was at empty pegged out the whole time. When I picked it up he said he had swapped it to the other tank on the drive home and it shows exactly the same. I will definitely be checking out that website as soon as I hit send here, I've been struggling finding good info so far.

Is it possible that both tanks are empty. Maybe check that first thing?
That would be very embarrassing 😂 I did a little investigating before it got dark. I can confirm that it is the electric pumps now, I pulled one of the connectors and I'm not 100% sure which pin to ground to test here. Gotta do some research there.
So I pulled off that for a minute and checked the temp circuit real quick and found a bad sensor. Got to work with my 14yr old boy tonight troubleshooting too so that made it pretty rewarding I actually found something 😂😂
