Question Destination / Residential / Cottage trailers

Hi guys,

Since we are anchored (we love it here) in a nice RV Resort, We're starting to look into a trailer that has everything all on one level rather than our current 40' toy hauler.
We're really taken with the Forest River 40CRS trailer, but would like to hear some feedback from the community in regard to this and other trailers..
Pros/Cons -- etc...

Randy,

Are you going to stay put? In my experience the residential models really do not do well when towed place to place. If you are going to put it someplace on a lake or such, I think they do fine. The overall quality is no better than any other travel trailer.

If we move it ,it would be within the park or this general area.
I would consider a Park Model, but don't want to be shackled to the park and helpless if they jack the rent up too high..

I would be concerned about moving them around a great deal, but other than that, it is just a matter of personal choice. I have never worked on one. Watched a bit about them on the tube from time to time. Weight has concerned me on some of them as it struck me the builder was more focused on weight and mobility, but hey it all boils down to how you are going to use it.

We currently travel all over and full time it in our '33 Carbon Toyhauler. We have been talking about a destination trailer for our "home base" but still have the '33 for our travels. We are looking at the Jayco Bungalow and Forest River Sandpipers. We are a family of 5, so a bunkhouse is a must. The Destination trailer may get to travel once a year from MD to TX for a few months at a time, but that is it. I went to go look at a few and holy crap are they huge.

If you want more room but still the flexibility of moving if need be, I think the destination trailer wiuld be the way to go, that has been our logic behind it.

The only problem I would have with the Destination trailer going on the road with any frequency is the overhang and manuevering issues.

I haven't worked on a lot of em, but - there is a lot of flex with that long frame. One locally was delivered and backed it up a small bank and the inside wall bucked so much it came completely undone. Dealer wanted me to fix it until I told him what had happened and what it would take to fix it. They decided to bring it back to the dealership and fix it.

I also see a lot of problems with those sliding doors. After a while they come untracked and just won't stay put.
