So I casually scroll through CL sometimes and come across some pretty nice stuff but sometimes i find something that really catches my interest. Right now i have a 79 F-150 with a 400/C6. It's my baby that i built from a turd farm truck. But it still has lots of issues. Doors don't work, windows don't like to crank and the cranks aren't even on, doesn't have any exhaust on it so its obnoxiously loud, leaks everything a lot, unprofessional paint, LOTS of dents, and more. But it's still my baby. I've always thought about what it would be like if i sold it and i just couldn't imagine anyone else having it. BUT... the problems get old and sometimes you look for other options. I personally love the body style (73-79) and i would want another. Then i came across this. https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/5382741055.html 1975 F-250 with a 390. Beautiful paint with the EXACT colors i questioned painting my truck in the future. It a manual while mine is an auto, 3/4 ton so easier for a future cummins swap that i dreamed about compared to a 1/2 ton. And i love that front end. The 73,74,75 front end and the 78 ranger, 79 front end are my two favorites. So what i'm getting at is what are your thoughts? I like opinions from other people so fire away gentlemen. What do you have to say?
Think about this, what would the current truck you have be like, if you put $4000 into it?
The list of problems it has now is very minimal to fix, for the most part going off what you put. New window regulators, handles, exhaust system, overall gasket kit? Or valve covers and a oil pan gasket ect....MACO paint job after you try body work yourself. 2K maybe?
That truck you posted is very nice for $4000, I bet 360 not 390. You will have to measure the stroke to make sure. At least the truck is stock looking and has hub caps, so maybe it has not had the heck beat out of it.
At least you know your truck and its problems...or you can spend 4K and maybe buy some one else's problems?
You can get a 73-77 and put a 78/79 outer grill on it. I bet that truck has drum front brakes and the older style p/s system? Not a show stopper, but something to be aware of.
Glad to see you back with us and tailgating me..."I bet" is like I guess. It's a 75, so drums or power drums, is still drum brakes right? And we all know that drum brakes are just the best in the world. lol
"Older" is Power Assist and or Bendix Power Assist and both are notorious for being problematic and prone to leaking and hard to locate parts to rebuild.

"Older" is Power Assist and or Bendix Power Assist and both are notorious for being problematic and prone to having a leaking design and hard to locate parts to rebuild. Sad but true.
Also when did the Garrison design get used?
Garrison Power Assist P/S: 1973/75 F100 4WD / 1975 F150 4WD / 1973 F250 4WD / 1974 F250 4WD before serial number T80,001.
Bendix Power Assist P/S: 1974 F250 4WD from serial number T80,001 / 1975/76 F250 4WD / 1977 F250 4WD before serial number Y20,001.
Great looking truck. My truck was not too much nicer than yours when I bought it. You can do A LOT with next to no money, if you are handy. I have done 99% of my own work, and I will have the truck restored for less than $2000 total. $4000 would get me to the moon with my build, or pay for gas for a week.
As for the [Bendix] power assist, fear not. There are plenty of rebuild services for the power ram. Any good hydraulic repair place will be able to do it. Just tell them it is for a tractor. Cost me $120. If you are handy, you can restore every last seal in the control valve. PM me for info.
I know one thing for a fact, you would regret ever getting rid of your current truck. It wouldn't take much to get it in pretty nice shape. My truck's body was fair, lots of dents but no rust, so a small can of bondo, lots of sandpaper and a bunch of hammering and work, and the body is nice and straight. Didn't even use all of the filler. The paint I am looking at is going to total $150 all told. Little bits and pieces aren't too bad either.
Recovering from "hardening of the arteries" surgery to right leg. Haven't been able to walk or drive since 8/7/2015. Not pleasant! New F150 has 67 miles on it, battery died after sitting in the garage for 5 months.
Wow sorry to hear about that, hang in there and get well soon. What no one to at least go start it once a week? Friends...you at least have to have one trust worthy soul with your keys?
I would offer to help you out, but the drive from Missouri to Cali is just a little to far, at least to do once a week. lol
I'm on the other side...that's a nice looking truck, and I think that 4k for it looks like a steal...at least compared to prices around me. Wheres the tailgate though? Because that could be a huge problem.
I think everyone is forgetting that you could sell yours for at least some amount of money, so you aren't really shelling out 4k or spending 4k on your truck.
As for the CL truck, if it's not a rust bucket, it sounds like a nice truck. I've tried to find if you ever say if your current truck is a 4x4, but since you say it's an old farm truck I'm guessing it's not. If you spent 4 grand on your truck, it still would not be a 4x4 and therefore not as desirable.
That said, there's something about a young guy's first truck that makes it special, warts and all.
