f250 dies in mud hole but not that deep

5.4L f250 is dead. Went through a small mud hole and the he truck just died. The muddy h20 was about 1/2 way up on my tires. After getting pulled out I checked the air filter and its dry. I did notice that the insulation on the hood was wet towards the back half of the engine. Guess maybe the fan sprayed it up there. Tried starter fluid with no help. Just turns over. Also checked the fuel reset and its normal. Where should I start.

Did you get any water on the top of the engine, like around the COPs?

If the spark plug holes are full of water, you may not have spark.

sounds like what happened when we brought our 02 F250 to the car wash washed it went to start it just cranked. Ended up being the fuel pump. Have you tried putting a code reader on it?

You should be able to dry out the coils, just get all the water out of there asap.

That should help, then leave them off overnight maybe. You could also shoot some WD-40 in the boots after you blow them out as it displaces water.

I'd also suggest using a shop vac to get any water out from around the plugs.

Coil Boots were probably cracked and allowed water to get down inside. However just to rule out the fuel pump, its super easy. Put keys in the ignition, turn the ignition on but dont crank the engine over. You should hear the fuel pump prime as it will run for about 5 seconds. It will be a buzzing sound coming from behind the cab, under the bed. If you dont hear it, your fuel pump is either bad or the wires are shorted.

Oh....just thought of one other thing. I should have suggested this first.

Did you check your inertia switch?

Check the fuel reset switch on the trail. It was down. I popped it up and nothing then pushed it down and still nothing. That's the same as the inertia switch

OK guys finally got a chance to check out the truck since getting it towed. I changed 5 spark plugs and coil packs then saw this.....
And this.
This wire leads to the fuel rail on the passenger side. Looks like it got ripped right out of the connector. Truck started right up. .ever heard of this or seen this happen?

I think that's the wire for your crank sensor so that would certainly stop it from running if it got pulled out.

I'm assuming it was one of those car washes that grabs onto the wheel?

Just get a 3-6' boat washing brush, 5gal bucket of warm car wash water and go at it at home. A quick wash (I stand in the bed to do the cab top) takes less than ten minutes. Get it detailed or hand washed if professionally done. If you aren't physically able the neighbors kid will do it for $10 im sure....
