From some old notes I have from info posted by Monsta and Bruce1954. V codes rated at 5200lbs, spring rate of 430 in/lbs, 5.13" of travel, +1.77" lift over stock on a V-10, +1.50" on a PSD. X codes rated at 6000lbs, spring rate of 470 in/lbs, 5.54" of travel, +2.90" lift over stock on a V-10, +2.68" on a PSD.
My setup is just like jamesbfishin's with the extra leaf on the x codes and the modded B codes out back, but I also have two sections of the old slapper bar cut down and added to the rear packs for a little extra. About 4" front and 4.5" rear from where I started.
I tow heavy and wanted better load handling and control, I also wanted to ride level while hitched. Here it is with 1400lbs hanging on the hitch.
Current tires are 275/65-18 (32") will be running 305/70-18's (35") when these wear out.
Oh I know all kinds of wonderful/questionable things can be done with WD hitches. I also know that my Hensley Arrow is setup pretty darn good, my front axle weight is exactly the same solo or hitched, And my rear axle and it's springs are carrying their fair share of that load. That same exact load with the stock springs was a very different situation.
Way back when WD hitches first appeared in the market one of the makers had an add with an Eldorado pulling a TT, they made their point by having the rear of the Caddy off the ground with the front drive wheels pulling. Got the point across but maybe not the best idea for family vacations.........
Trying to find what "modded B code springs" are?
Is there any difference in height between V code and X code springs or is it just a rating difference?
Tom has ya covered on the spring height and capacity differences between the V's and X's.
Like Rich states, the modded B's are just a hybrid of your OEM spring and a B code.

Cary has a lot of trial and error involved in getting to the setup he ended up with. Lots of aftermarket suspension stuff that never worked well.
Wow, that was a looooooong time ago back in the early days of Ex modding over at TDS.
He's definitely a smart man, which is obvious because he was able to start a business from the end result he came up with! And from what I've been able to ascertain, the stuff he has made that he sells is better than a lot of aftermarket parts you can find out there.
All Ford parts, rear has modded B code springs front has X codes with the top overload spring from rear inserted as an add-a-leaf in front. measures 41" on all 4 fenders, 305/70/16

Do you have any pictures of the springs modded? I am not comprehending the overload on top of the X spring??
Is the overload spring on the bottom of the X pack?
Tom, I know you asked James for a pic of his modded X codes, he got the idea from me and this is what we did. (The WE3ZS mod.)
Top spring is the stock B code rear pack with the top overload leaf and block attached. They need to come off to avoid AC line damage.
Middle spring is the stock X code front pack.
Bottom is the modded X code with the B overload leaf added to the bottom of the X code pack. Nylon sliders have been added to extra leaf as well as thicker spacers between leaves.
Tom pretty much covered that aspect, only pic I really have is when I added the B code top overload spring into my already installed X code front springs. One thing that you'll need to do is pirate some of the plastic pads from the stock excursion springs after the B code swap, drill holes in the overload spring (9/16" I believe) so the pad is right at both ends of the spring to cut down on friction and squeeks. This pic you can see the recycled nylon pads. And yes the overload leaf is added to the bottom of the pack like an add-a-leaf
All the B, V ,X code stuff can be pretty confusing, took me a few months of reading through threads to figure out what everyone was talking about and then decide which route to take for my needs, well worth the time invested in research, my truck for me is perfect ride height, load capacity, stability and I love how she looks.
Has anybody done the B code overload on a V code front?
I have only seen modded X codes here. I picked up a set of V codes for $65 and the guy threw in what looks to be the rear helpers from his F250 but there are no pads on top or bottom. He was not sure we're they came from he just said they came off his truck when the lift was installed?
rpn0832b, Id say give them a try, if it rides too harsh or too much lift just take them out.
Its fairly easy to do, the V code can stay in the truck clamp the pack together before you loosen the center bolt, just drop axle far enough from the springs to get the center bolt out, do one side at a time. Make sure you have longer center bolts before you start though.
Lots of options for this. Search through the old threads.
You may like a V/B spring swap or a leveling kit if not going much above stock.
I have a 5" lift and run 35s, but I'm pretty sure several guys on here run the same on a 4" kit. Procomp and Rough Country are pretty popular and not too pricey.
Ditto. Two inches lift with the VBs (blocking the backs) and with stock tire sizes.
