I hear a lot of bad things about the 16.5" wheel, but I think they are excuses to buy 17" wheels.
When I bought the yellow truck, it had four very old and beat-up BFG 33-12.5x16.5 AT/TA's on it - but no spare. I refused to drive it out of town until I got a spare. I never did find a 9.5x16.5" OEM wheel, so I bought a wagon wheel from Summit. Then I got online and ordered a fresh pair of BFG AT/TA's and had them installed in a couple of days. Fortunately, I wanted BFG AT/TA's as there weren't many choices. Be careful with E-Bay and Craig's List - make sure you get 8x6.5" bolt pattern, the right hub size, and the correct offset. I bought a nice wheel on E-Bay for my spare, but it was 8x170. The guys at Discount Tire initially tried to set me up with 16" wheels. Even at $1700 for wheels and tires, I almost went for it. Until they couldn't get LH 9/16 "tuner" lugs and locks for the left rear... And that's why the yellow truck still has dog dish hubcaps! |
