My first new truck in 10 years

My 2011 F350 is the first new truck I have bought in ten years. After a protracted battle with a very nice but very troublesome 04 F250 6.0, I realized that my work requires a trustworthy vehicle to tow my fiver from job to job. Hence the new truck. After much deliberation and some coaching from Cheezit, I decided to bite the bullet and be a beta tester for the 6.7. So far, I am ecstatic. Almost 3000 miles in less than 2 weeks and I am averaging around 19 to 20 mpg empty and the last fiver pull showed 12.5 mpg. Power is fantastic and the truck exceeds my expectations. The only issue I have seen so far is the ability to collect speeding tickets, even when towing. The truck is so smooth, quiet and powerful it is easy to get above the speed limit. Not busted yet though.

Regards

That's excellent news Rictatic...I've been on the fence with a 6.7 and decided I'm not going to Beta test one for now.

Since you refer to your troublsome 6.0 I have a question for you: Do you feel your second catastrophic failure was due to operator error? You were a strong advocate that all the 6.0 problems could be solved by proper maintenance, but I believe you proved to yourself that maynot be the case. What are your thoughts?

Again I'm glad to hear the 6.7 is performing well. I'll continue to subcribe to your reports on the 6.7.

Even after having a troublesome 6.0, you still decided to go with a Ford. No wonder Ford sells more diesels then Dodge and GM combined. You won't regret it. Even though I own a 2010 6.4 and not a 6.7, Ford learned a HUGE lesson from the 6.0 fallout and was determined to NEVER let it happen again. Enjoy your truck, and when the day comes that you get a wild hair to remove the DPF/CAT and tune it you will not be able to stop smiling...

Troy,

The second engine ingested an unknown very small piece of metal, about an eighth inch square which lodged in the number 4 cylinder high side intake valve and bent it slightly. I use my truck to tow my living quarters around the country for work. I have been real busy and decided I wanted a new truck. Debbie qualifies for Z plan pricing and the time was right.

Was that happening with the 6.4L in 2008 this early into build 1?

Yah this truck is awesome. Dealers are selling a lot off them. Ford has said that the 6.7 will be like the legendary 7.3. They are right. And with tons more power an great mileage.

It's not legendary yet; it hasn't existed long enough.
It's a great truck, that's for sure but we have to see how this truck will hold up. I wonder if anyone even has reached 10k miles yet.

There was a truck in the shop a buddy works at up here in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, that had 14000 kms on it. That would be about 10K miles. He said there had been no problems with anything on this truck. It was in for an oil change. This truck had driven it out from Ontario by it's owner.

I'd suggest you try using that little cruise control button. That or put a Toyota sticker on it and tell them it was another stuck accelerator. :-X0A6

Yes. When people discovered what the job 1 6.4 got in MPG's, it was easy to find new used trucks with just a few thousand miles on many dealer lots.

Yeah, I use the cruise control all the time when on the highway. I am up to 3300 miles as of today. Not one single complaint. The mileage over the last 1200 miles has stayed at 19 mpg in mixed highway and city driving.

That's great news. That's almost as good as I get at 334,000 miles with a mixture of city highway. Hopefully you pick up another couple of MPG's when you get it broke in.

Too bad they don't offer it with a stick anymore.
