Why is my turbo whistle fairly silent?
Ive seen lots of videos and see lots of trucks and it seems like everyones turbo is screaming except mine?
Why does it not do it loud? And what can i do to make it louder (i love that sound) :-D |
for the stock turbo the foil delete on the driver side IC pipe, a open air filter and the wicked wheel...or get the GTP38R..that's probably the video you are watching..
|
ive been thinking of mods to do but also am on a very limited budget i was planning on a 6637 kit from clay next filter change.
I just looked up the wicked wheel and see its not too expensive i may look into one of those sometime..it would probably be a good idea anyways saying theres 200k on the stock turbo. What is the purpose of the foil delete ive heard of it and tried to research it but didnt come up with much. |
save this link some place safe..you will find 3 threads on this mod in there named "IC Pipe Foil Removal" down in the mod section..
Powerstroke Mods and Maintenance the foil is like sound proofing on the pipe..with the early 99 trucks not having the foil..Ford found a lot of complaints that the whistle was too loud...that was one of the reasons..the other is it would keep heat from the manifolds out of the pipe ..we dont see that much of a diff... |
So how hard is the mod to complete?
And how long would it take? |
couldnt tell ya..i have the early 99..never had the foil on it..but some say hard..some say not so hard..the link i posted will point you in the right direction...
|
Ive been reading the forums from that link and it seems alot of people are using lots of wd40 and brake cleaner and wire wheels to remove the gunk left behind. I have access to a snapon sand blaster would that make the job easier or would it not work good at removing the glue?

or even burn it off
|
I would stick to cleaning..there pretty thin aluminum pipes..but it is your truck..

90% of them are steel pipes... There are a few aluminum ones out there, but there is no rhyme or reason to where they are. |
Thats where the magnet test comes in i suppose.
|
hmmmm i have a set on my truck..i have the aluminum cooler as well...built 3/98 maybe?? motor was built 1/98
|
My truck was built in 6/99 so it was one of the last that rolled off the line

Like I said, its hit or miss... My wifes 2001 excursion has steel pipes and metal end tanks... I have welded on countless IC pipes over the years... |
