I used to have a 95 F150 with the pushbutton and I had to put the trans in neutral to shift it into low range.

Also, have you tried backing up to release the 4wd?

I would start with the speed sensor. Your OD light flashing is telling you that your trans has a problem. The speed sensor let the computer know how fast your going and that's how it figures out when to shift. This will cause it store a code and make the OD light blink. ( Is it shifting funny ? ) It also works your speed O. The transfer might not be trying to shift if its not seeing the drive shafts turning? But that's a guess.
