Pinion Seal, relatively easy to replace.
Drop the drive shaft, remove the u-joint yoke and remove old the seal. Take the new seal, apply a thin coat of grease on the seal lip and a thin coat of sealer on the OD of the seal and install. Check the yoke for wear or damage (nicks, scratches, etc) replace if needed (Bronco Graveyard has them). Put some sealer on the splines of the pinion and yoke. Reinstall the yoke and put the nut on. Tighten the nut. DON'T overtighten the nut and absolutley DO NOT use an impact to tighten. If you do, this will change the pinion bearing preload and to reset it you will have to change the crush sleeve inside. Then reinstall the drive shaft. Check the oil level, add if needed. Done |
Great...Thanks...
looks like i'll be taking the school bus to school tomorrow then..ugh haha |
bought a new seal.. a big 5 dollars.. :-X24
looking forward to installing it this weekend.. haha i wish it would do it by itself over night! hehe |
Unless you've got a nice impact wrench, be sure to eat your Wheaties before you try to remove the pinion nut!!!

I had to use heat and a 3/4 impact to get mine off. 1/2 impact just wouldnt cut it.
