nevrenufhp 01-05-2010 07:32 PM

I'm tempted to make a dyno run with mine, but my guesstimation is 180-200hp, and could do the qtr mile in 22 sec.

You think that 6 is putting out that much?

fastmover 01-06-2010 02:02 PM

I would guestimate around 225-260. That is when it starts and runs.

It does have a 4bbl, Offy intake, header, higher ratio rockers, electronic ign, and the most important....a chrome air cleaner.
Maybe you should take it for a spin when I come over.

I remember reading an article many years back when someone took a 4.9L and got 300 horses out of it.

He took two Boss 302 heads, cut and furnace brazed them together to make a
6 banger head, along with other stuff done to the engine.

nevrenufhp 01-06-2010 09:23 PM

There's a company in Australia that's making an aluminum head for them. That's been ongoing for a couple years now. There's been Cleveland heads, and Chebby 350 heads used before, and anything helps when the stock ports are so small. I have a pic on my computer of a 300 with a Magna-charger making around 450hp.
Then there's my nephew's that has a cam, roller rockers, forged pistons, and a host of other goodies, probably makes 250-270hp

That should be very doable, expensive, but doable. I have a 2.5L 4 cylinder in my Subaru that puts out 265hp at 6000 rpm with 244 ft/lbs at 4000 rpm. While the Subaru is all wheel drive, I doubt I want to try pulling stumps out of the ground like I would with my truck.

Those ford straight sixes have a lot of torque, what is the number on that?

nevrenufhp 01-06-2010 09:39 PM

The sooopercharged 300 would probably be around 650 pounds of grunt. Anyone looking for a 300?

3Mike6 01-07-2010 02:03 AM

Okay....but!...I'd be more inclined to think about 150 at the engine and about 120 or so at the wheels...just my guess...I mean if you had some cam and head work, then I could see it gettnig up there..but stock (although I don't know the Ford 6's at all) I'm thinking CR would be in the 8 or so to 1 range, tough to pull 200HP with that compression and no cam/headwork.

Hey, but I'm a GM guy...then again, bring me that L-6 head and I'm sure I can find you a pony or two!

nevrenufhp 01-07-2010 09:28 PM

I have an extra 300 head that I ported out, but this little 6 is getting pulled for an oil burnin 6.
