I've installed a home brew FIPK intake clone, a set of long toob headers, a 3" exhaust system, advanced the timing almost up to the rattle point. Good improvements so far.

What would be a worthwhile next step performance mod without pulling the heads off? An MSD ignition? Is there such a thing as higher ratio standard or roller rockers? How about an Edelbrock performance throttle body? Don't have the $4,000 for a blower!

Sorry El Guapo, the EFI 460 is not a cheap beast to modify. MSD won't really do anything for you. To be able to do any engine mods you will need to do do a MAF conversion, then the world of mods will open but not till the tune of $1000 for the MAF. For the time and money I am waiting to save up for the vortech SQ s-charger. I have found it new on the net for $2499.

stroke it out to 514!!!!! Seriously a cam would be a good idea. I drove a 460 with a 292 RV cam and that thing just didn't run out of power.

If you do not want to get into the engine...your biggest bang for the buck would be a higher stall converter or a different gear set. I just switched over to 4.10's, should have done it years ago!

What would getting a higher stall convertor get him? He would just have to wond the engine out more before the truck started moving. convertor stall speed is also based on torque and engine vacuum values, so unless he does a cam change there would be no benefit to getting a new convertor. Or am I way off base here?

I'm just suggesting a mild step up in the converter...400-500 RPM over what he has stock. TCI makes the 11" Street-Sizzler which he can purchase for $132 mail order from Summit or Jegs. I quote from TCI: "This converter is a step above stock and is designed for use in street or mildly modified vehicles. You'll get quicker acceleration, better low-end power and a smoother, cooler running transmission without any internal modifications."
I would consider his vehicle "mildly modified" with his already finished intake and exhaust modifications. A $132 converter upgrade is a pretty cheap improvement if he can do the labor. Just my 2-cents...Deen

That's a great idea, but why not do the cam and new TC all at once? Both mods compliment the other.
