romp romp romp.... help

ive searched and searched the forums and came up w/ a few suggestions on a fix for the romp romp on cold start up. tried waiting for the fuel pump to stop running, tried cycleing the glow plugs a few extra times, checked the glow plug relay. it seems to do it once it gets colder than 30 degrees w/o being plugged in. dosnt do it when plugged in. its a problem because i cannot plug it in at work, or when im ice fishing, or when the girlfriend parks it at her dorm. could running thicker 15w-40 oil be causing this? or are not all the glow plugs working? any help would be great. many thanks

in the colder weather you should run 5-40. I run 15-40 year round just because it never gets that cold for very long where I live. If you can, plug the truck in when it is that cold.

I agree with empiretc, a truck that is prone to the romps, a lighter weight diesel oil and/or synthetic will help eliminate or reduce hard cold starts. It is also essential that you have a good working GP system though.....

what are the pin assignments so i can check the glow plugs. if i remember they should be 12 ohms right?

Here is a short thread on how to test the GP's.
