1956 louvered hood
does anyone know if the 1956 louvered hood is a factory piece or aftermarket? hood is all metal. i have a chance to purchase a 1956 f100 with a louvered hood, front mustang clip with a 289 mustang motor automatic for less than 2 grand. any comments on the hood would greatly be appriciated. thanks.

The hood is definitely aftermarket. No louvers were standard. BUT, it is cool and the price is right if the overall sheet metal of the truck is decent.

Hood is probably original and someone just had the louvers punched in it.

OH, and by the way, welcome to FTE! :-D

Are metal louvered hoods desirable among 53 to 56 truck owners. reason i ask is i do not see much information in truck ads or catalogs or google searches. should i trash the hood i have? does anyone reproduce the louvered hood. any info would help. thanks.

I'm not sure what the question is. Is the hood bad? Do you not like louvers? What's the problem?
Yes. Steel hoods are desirable. They are available in the aftermarket, although they are expensive. Most folks try to find a used one or a parts truck with a decent one. 53-55 hoods are the same. 56 hoods have an identical contour and fit, except they have two stove bolts thru the doubler at the rear of the peak and use different bolts at the hinges. |
