Gas milage towing
 

I'm leaving for OH in a few days from VA. You guys got any idea how far my fuel milage is gonna drop off. I'm pulling a 17' boat, total rig ways around 2500lbs. All stock 93 w/ 351w and 3.55 gears in the rear. All my driving will be highway. Normally I can pull 14-15 mpg on this trip without the boat.

you will probably be in the 10-12mpg range depending on headwind and traffic conditions. the more you maintain a consistant speed the better of course. make sure your tires are at proper pressure if not a tad higher. what size tires are you running?

With two four wheelers on a heavy trailer I get 10-11 mpg with 90% highway.

I have the same truck/motor except a 96. I also pull a 17' center console boat all the time. I get a 2-3 mpg drop pulling my boat however that's stop and go driving. You should do better on the highway. Try to use the cruise control once you get up to speed and you shouldn't lose to much mileage.

I routinely pull a 17' boat, w/ same weight as yours, from Cincinnati surrounding lakes in Ohio (Eastfork/Grand Lake St. Marys/Caesars Creek/Rocky Fork), Kentuck (Cave Run/KY Lake/Dale Hollow/Laurel) & Indiana (Brookville). On highway, with plenty of ups and downs, I get a consistent 12 MPG. I have the 302 w/ 31" rubber. Don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but I always turn off the overdrive - the tranny just hunts too much with the hills.
