Help wiring offroad lights into fusebox
 

I currently have my offroad lights wired into the fuse box using an inline fuse. What has happened is that when the lights were on, the plastic housing unit on the inline fuse keeps melting.

What i want to do is run the power for the lights into the fuse box. This way i can eliminate the plastic housing for the fuse. How do i go about wiring power into the fuse box??

HI, Please tell me thet the RELAY is wired into the fuse panel, NOT the power for the lights!
most kits have the switch go t0 the battery with the relay wire into the fuse box

Yes, the power for the lights is wired into the fuse panel. I skipped the whole idea of the relay switch. is there any way that i can just wire the power directly into the fuse box?

thats why your melting stuff, you might want to use a relay before your truck catches on fire. how many lights do you have? How many total watts? you need to run a line directlly to the battery, and use a switch to activate a relay to operate the lights.

i am running 2 kc highlights 75watts and 2 kc hella 50 watts lights on one switch and 2 fog lights on the other switch. So if i install the relay will this solve my problems?

Can i not use a relay and connect the power directly to the battery using an inline fuse?

Sure, run a line from the battery to the relay with a fuse in between. then continue on from the relay to the lights. From the toggle switch on the dash, if you only want to be able to use the lights with the key on, tap into an accessory wire, if tou want to be able to use them all the time tap into a +12v constant source. This low current signal is going to flow through the switch when you flip it, and activate the coil in the relay which will directlly connect your lights to +12v on the battery and make them light.


You should need about a 25-30 amp relay, and you should be using about 8 gauge wire if your lights are all the way up on the roof, 10 if there on the front of the truck, just make sure either way to weatherproof all your exposed wiring because when on, those lights pull a lot of juice.
