headers and transmission cooling lines
 

Hi all.
I just installed headers on my 77 302 c4. On the passenger side the header was rubbing the transmission cooling lines, so I've tried bending them out of the way some. I can only get them about 1/2" away from the header. Is this enough clearance? Any suggestions on what to do here like heat shielding maybe?

I have the same problem with mine. What I have been told is to cut them and install rubber lines to get them out of the way. Havnt done it yet though.

have you noticed any tranny issues with the fluid being hotter?

This will work, but there is unexpensive hose which is rubber with a braided stainless steel coating. Heting up your fluid is heating up your transmission. Heat = Death to a transmission. A good aftermarket cooler is the single best thing to do to increase the life of your auto tranny.

Any suggestions for a temporary fix? WIll heat shield tape work?

I doubt it very much. Since the tape is touching the line, most of the heat will be passed right through the tape. Please don't make yourself sorry by not fixing it correctly ASAP. I've wasted too much money in the past by trying temporary repairs. I've learned my lesson. I mean, crap. How the -ell much money does a little hose cost?
