Ford VIN decoder has some problems

I used the Ford website decoder for my VIN to see what it would return on my 2005 F250 V10 SWB Crew.

This forum software will not let me post links because I am under 25 posts....sorry guys, it's the software:mad:

My VIN is
The decoder said my engine was a diesel.....go figure...I've got the V10.

It also said the V10 had 305 brake horsepower.

Ford advertises it in all their brochures as 362 horsepower.

Is the 362 horsepower brake horsepower or rear wheel horsepower? I really am at a loss to understand the discrepancy in this published info:-huh

My V10 VIN also shows as a Diesel. It created a little angst after I ordered it because I thought they got the order wrong.

i just did mine same thing v10 is listed as a diesel. i thought s was the code for the v10 not the y

captchas 02-21-2005 05:12 PM

i did some double checking and found that the engine code y is used several times. in the light med truck y is the 6.8 v10 but in the over 11 k rating y is used for the diesel. so to me it looks like it ford has a software problem in the gvw engine code area . every thing else came out correct. if any one can't find the sheet i did save it so i can foward if wanted
