Who's got Big Blocks in their Effies?

Anyone have Lincoln 460's in their trucks -- besides jniolon...

What other Big Blocks do you guys have? Trannys? Rear-ends? What are Posi-rear ends like? I have never had the pleasure to drive a '70s-era bruiser but would like to know what it is like...

Cheers,

S.G.

I'm doing the 460/C6, with the ford/Lincoln 8.8 rear, 3.55 with Posi, disc brakes all the way around.

Objective is to be able to burn rubber at any speed!

Now thats what I'm thinkin! I'm building my 51 now, fitted in the 460/C6, just finished welding all the brackets on my 9", and gotta love those big fat Mickey T's.....

I have a 502 going into mine mated to a C6, GV overdrive and a 9 inch. Short block is down minus a few mods. Will be looking at 600+hp and 700+ torque.

My 55 Im workin on has a lincoln 460, t-10 4 speed, 9 inch rear with 3.73 gears.

Why do you wanta go with a big block ????? Im not knockin a big block in a early ford. Matter fact I have a 50 Ford f-4 holmes wrecker with a mild reworked 460 and 4 speed, also a 52 mercury M-3 1-ton dually p.u. thats has a blanced and built 460 EFI. Its also running a garrett turbo 5-speed 411 gears. And ya it halls ass. and able to out run most 5.0 stangs on the street. But I built it 5 years ago,not knowing gas would go so high. If I built one today. It would be a 302 or 351 windsor.my 52 merc has won in a lot of shows. But my trucks are not garage trucks like most. They are driven a lot. Almost daily. You might want to think about how many gas stations you will be able to pass. And being able to have fun with it without it hurting your pocket book. You can count on 9-10 miles per gallon if your lucky drivin normal.. And at almost $2 dollars a gallon. Be ready to be pulling out them jacksons quick. Most guys I have run across with a lil F-1 were more then pleased with there small block mill. Later !!!

Because I'm not building it to be a daily driver. I may even run race fuel only through it. This is a toy, plan and simple. I will have well in excess of 50k in it before its done. The cost of gas is the last thing I'm concerned with.

I've got the 460/C-6 combo and an 8.8 in the rear with 273's and disc brakes.

Since the question is "what OTHER big blocks..." I guess I can answer:rolleyes: .

I'm running a 450+hp modified 402 bbc L-47 truck motor...until I find my 429 CobraJet:-X06 . In the meantime, the trans is a TH400 with a B&M kit and GearVendors OD unit (love that thing!!) The rear is a Mopar 8 3/4 3.91 ratio posi. The truck came with all this and since it runs so good, I'm not about to change it for now. I can be cruising at 40mph, hit the switches to turn off the OD unit and turn on the electric TH400 kickdown at the same time and lay 30 ft of rubber:-X04 ! Gearheads want to know what the hell is in there to do that!

Since this is not a daily driver gas is not an issue....it can't be at only 4-5 mpg:-fire ! My daily driver is a 2001 V6 F-150......but not nearly as much fun to drive.

Well I may get rid of my 502. Someone made a suggestion of running Boss 429 heads. This is intreging to say the least. A 572 with hemi heads may just be the ticket.

71 Lincoln 460/C6 combo.....4 bar link system on a 9 inch rear end......4.11 MAE Racing(Andale) Posi unit....

sparky30_06 01-10-2005 12:23 PM

ok big block define big block?? does a 6.9 liter international diesel count, oh yea with a turbo on it also. c6 trans, going to the trans shop hopefully next fall or sooner for a trans brake and to reverse pattern. 9" rear end with strange street/strip 35 spline axles and a strange third member with 3.25 gears and a detroit locker.

hot1958 01-10-2005 06:40 PM

hey sparky,i would definately say that is a bigblock.i have seen a set up like your's before, and the truck was pretty quick to.the same guy has a 69'f-100 with a 7.3 diesel that run'shigh 9's in the 1/4 mile.both truck's are cool.i like your truck,i think the 58's are the best looking of the 57-60's f-100's.have fun with it/scott.
