1964 f-250 292 question

I just got a 1964 f-250 with a blown (rod through block) engine. This engine is not the original engine. The block casting shows (B9AE) which means a 1959-1960 292. My question is the distributor is on the front of the engine all the y-block pictures I've seen show the distributor on the rear of engine by the firewall, what gives? Does this sound right? If not what do you think I have? Thanks

The distributer on a Yblock would be at the rear closer to the right engine bank or head, or you sure you haven't got a FE engine there?? It sounds like a car 1964 FE 352 engine, and i'm almost ceratin on that, let me ask you though, i'll bet for sure it does not have two top valve cover nuts that bolt to studs does it?? I'll bet your vavle covers are round and have a Ford punchpress, and have small bolts all along the edges, get back with me....Janet

Yes, It has ford pressed into the valve cover and is bolted around the edges of valve cover. no holes thru cover. Any numbers I should look for on block to confirm what I have. Thanks

I'm not sure what numbers the FE 352 and 360 and 390 had, but this is what you have, and all those engines are the same physically outside, we could look it up somewhere though, but i know that's what you've got, probably a 352, in 1964 being that you have a larger series 250 pickup i think what they did is took the 352 car engine they used that same year and dropped in there, it's a shame a rod is through the side of the block because that baby is better than a Yblock, also that engine should be all Blue color, if it were the 390 for that year it could be silver in color as Ford colored the 390 silver for Tbird in 1964....Janet

the date code on the block shows it a 1959-1960 blockNow I need to know what engine or engines would be a direct bolt in with the setup I have. This truck has a automatic trans. I dont know if it's a cruise-omatic or something else. I don't what to change out bell housings or anything I just want to make this as painless as possible

That;s fairly simple, a 1960 352 car V8 engine..The 59 would have been the police interceptor car engine, if it's blue a 1960 to 64 352 will bolt right up to your setup, but only those 4 years cars engines....Janet

Tell me, do you have a way of knowing if the transmission is good or worthy??? Because if you aren't if it were me, i would go to salvage yard and buy a complete used unit, that way you could use the good ford truck 360 engine with an automatic with it or later setup, maybe a 70, or 80,s 302 and C4 setup, this is the course i would choose....Janet

PS...in my younger years i wasted much much money and time, getting an engine and bolting to a stupid unknown automatic transmission, heck buy the unit!! It's only or supposed to be no more than 200 more or so...Janet

Actually an automatic rebuild kit is pretty cheap, let's say if the salvage yard engine and tranny together transmision is unknown, people think its 1000 to build an automatic, those kits are cheap!!! And anyone can rebuild one, buy the chiltons with pictire diagrams, and don't screwup like me, and forget the servo for the rear band for reverse, hehehe!! Oh yes, ive learned from mistakes.....Janet
