dual master cylinder upgrade??
I heard their was a dual master cylinder upgrade for manual drum brakes. Is this true?
If so where could I buy one? Thanks |
You could purchase a dual M/C from a Mustang.......some of them had 4 drum brakes. I think you would need an adapter to mount the M/C to the firewall and there are some companies that seel those adaptors. ECI is one.

I bought a power brakes kit in 1997 from one of the classic truck magazine vendors. I vaguely recall it costed somewhere around $400, but can't remember which vender I bought it from. It's mounted under the cab in the stock location and is a big improvement over the old stock system. The master cylinder and booster look alot like the setup in my old Mustang. I probably could have saved some money just putting the parts together myself instead of springing for the kit.
Here are some things to think about: Mounting it under the cab makes it easy to use the stock pedal set up, but it also makes it tough to get at, check levels, etc. We couldn't find a way to locate it and use the stock hole in the floor. The master cylinder ended up right underneath a part of the floor panel that is structural, so I decided against cutting an access hole into it. The end result is I have to check brake fluid levels with a mirror and fill it with a squeeze bottle and tube. Pain in the....x( I've seen some guys locate the booster/cylinder in the engine bay like modern vehicles. I imagine they had to ditch the stock pedal and come up with something mounted to the firewall. Hope this helps. ROB |
