Tips for breaking in my first Diesel

About a week ago I ordered my First Ford with my First Diesel! I've only had two vehicles since 1986 both Dodge pickups. I have always liked the look of the Super Duty and while I was looking for a new truck I knew I wanted a diesel and when I compared the psd specs to the cummins(and the louder noise)I knew the Ford was me.
I have read a lot of the posts on this site and have learned a lot.
I did have a few questions about PSD break-in though.
I ordered a 2002 F350 CC, 8'bed, 4x4, psd, 6 speed manual, 3.73 limited slip, camper package. I run about 100 miles a day going to work and back, about 75 miles of that is interstate 70-75mph.
Is it much different than break-in on a gas burner? How should I drive it, constant speed/change speed for x amount of miles. How long should I go until I do the first oil change. I read in one post that for 2002 you don't have to add the FW-16 coolant additive because they now use coolant that has it in it, but should I still check it every once in a while with a test strip to see if it needs a boost? If so where do you get the test strips, Dealer?

Any other tips that will help give my new truck a long life??

I only test drove one for about 20 minutes but I can't wait for mine to come in. The dealer told me they have been getting there trucks in about 5 weeks. That comes from the man that orders them. I wish Ford had a way to check the status of an order online.

Sorry for the long post but I'm exited!:-D

Thanks,
Warren

Congrats on the new truck. You definitely picked a winning combination.

As for break-in. Put a loaded trailer behind it and let her pull for a few hours. This will help seat the piston rings. Be sure the engine is at operating temp. before she starts pulling.

1000 mile break in period. Vary speeds widely. Freeway driving is not a good break in practice.

I have a 2002 with the new coolant. Adding SCA's to the yellow coolant is a big no-no. The owner's manual tells you how to handle that. My truck only took 3.5 weeks to get here. I've got about 3700 miles on it, loving it. Enjoy yours and good luck...

With my 2000 PSD, I was told to vary the speed and not to tow for the first 1k miles. After that "Magic Number", fill it with fuel and run its doors off. Enjoy your truck..Best of luck, Jeff
