1964 Ford Grumman Kurbside P350

Good afternoon. I’m new to this forum! Hopefully someone can help and have some insight on this vehicle. I’m looking to replace the front hub assemblies because they were hacked in the build and no longer any good! Running into issues finding the parts. Finding 5 and 8 lug only. Ours is a 6 lug and 8 in the rear. Not sure if that’s even original. Help!

Welcome to FTE.

Sometimes it is slow here on the weekends. At any rate, Your vehicle is a bit rare here, and you’ll need to be somewhat patient till somebody that knows something bout them shows up. Would like to see how you progress with it. Also, I recommend you put where you live in your profile, you just might get help fairly close by.

My guess is that someone swapped in an F250 or newer F350 rear axle. Original would have been 6 bolt to match the front. Most likely the front axle/hubs are the same as a F350 dually.

Part number for the 8-bolt hub on the 1964 P350 is a part number of B7J-1104-A. Finding one may be the adventure of a lifetime.

Is the original Ford Warranty Plate still on it? Somewhere on the firewall perhaps?

The VIN should start P35, P40 or P50, and be 11 digits.

With that 6 lug front, if it's 6 on 8 3/4", it could actually be a P500.

Nothing ever came from the factory with 6 lug / 8 lug combination axles.

Your front axle should have identifying numbers cast into it, so that would be one way to search parts.

What's wrong with the hubs? New bearing races can be installed, and new lugs pressed in, unless there's other issues.....

Any alternatives? If I can’t find the original hub?

Axle swap but that's a can of worms steering gear wise.

Hubs were destroyed

Bought the truck like that with 6 lug in the front and 8 lug in the rear. What happened I had a mechanic do some work on it and I requested new wheels on it and he did do it and was happy he did. Didn’t know until 3-4 weeks down the road the front wheel came off and I saw what the he did. Well he split the hub to weld a 8 lug set to the hubs so he can put wheels on it! Obviously it’s not the way it should of been done! Thankfully nothing happened and nobody got hurt! So the original hubs are garbage. See pics.

Just because we can:

P35 = P350 gas

J = 223 1V six in line

L = Michigan Truck Plant

544380 = 1964 numerical series, June 1964 production

122 = 122 inch wheelbase

P = Not shown as a paint code for that model year

P350 = P350 gas, 8,000 lbs GVWR

88 = Not shown, 85 is supposed to be for Parcel Delivery body type.

F = Warner T98A four speed transmission

29 = Rear axle, model not specified in Shop Manual, 7,200 lbs capacity, 5.87 ratio
No front axle code. Only optional front axles were listed from '64 to '69

8000 = 8,000 lbs GVWR

114 3600 = 114 certified net HP @ 3600 RPM

340373
34 = Indianapolis District Sales Office
0373 = Special Order Number

If there are any numbers etc stamped or cast into the axle, you can search by those and see if there is an interchange with the F series and go from there.
