1999 V10 Triton coolant flushed and overheated
 

If this is not the correct place my apologies.

This is a 1999 coachmen Mirada RV.

I decided to flush my cooling system with a chemical flush.

Drained the system added the coolant, ran the engine.. 10 minutes in the temperature gauge was maxed out..I immediately realized the motor was not getting any coolant. I squeezed the upper large radiator hose and felt a gush of coolant flow. The temp gauge was reading normal again..didn't think much of it.

After the third flush I realized there was oil in my coolant. I checked the dipstick and it was indeed low there is now oil in my coolant.

I decided to try and trouble shoot the oil cooler by removing it from the system and checking for oil coming from it. No oil. I'm not sure if there is a certain temperature that the oil needs to reach for it to come out of that is where my problem is..

I also realize the chances are good that I have a blown head gasket or worse cracked or warped heads. I'm hoping someone can give me any advice or information..maybe there is another option.

There was probably air trapped in the cooling system that needed to be vented out before starting.
That may have created a "hot spot" somewhere in the cooling system.
Best to get a coolant pressure test kit and see if the system is losing pressure back through a head gasket.
Auto parts stores rent those kits.

Is there any other place besides the head gasket or oil cooler that would allow oil into the cooling system?

With these larger cooling systems you really need a vacuum fill procedure in order to remove all of the air trapped in the system (the tools truck companies offer tools to do this but you need a decently sized air compressor).

I decided to bypass the oil cooler and flush the cooling system with tap water around 7 times. The water is coming out clear but not seeing any oil drop out of the oil cooler. Any ideas? I did remove the thermostat during this process.

Why remove the thermostat ?

i removed it so i could achieve the flushes faster and not have to wait for the engine to reach 190. the vehicle was not going to be moved, just stationary. tomorrow i am going to put the thermostat back in , drive it 20 mins down the road while still bypassing the oil cooler and see if any oil in my cooling system.

fingers crossed this is my home and I have a new job lined up for april 1st.

ok i decided to just buy the new oil cooler from autozone for a premium to ease my worried mind. threw it in. put back the thermostat, filled the radiator to the top by removing the thermostat hose. made sure the engine was full took it for a 30 min ride. drained the coolant, it was clear. thank god!!

turns out the chemical flush must have made the oil cooler fail. never again with the chemical flush.
