8 Lug wheels -Disc brakes
I have an 8 lug front disc brake kit. My stock wheel hits the caliper. The instructions say to find a newer replacement wheel that will accept the caliper. The trick is it also needs to accept the stock hub cap.
Anybody know a substitute for a 16 55 F250 wheel that will work? Otherwise I need to grind the caliper and put in a wheel spacer which I prefer not to do. Thanks! |
I bought a set of stock steel wheels for a 80's Ford van just in case I convert to disc brakes. No they do NOT work with the stock hub caps (Maybe with clips?) but, Baby Moons are close.

If there is an option with clips I would do that but have no idea what that actually entails or where to find them. Any guidance appreciated.

I've seen clips but, never bought or used them. Maybe Speedway? I think you drill a hole in the wheel for each clip so it retains your hub cap? Sorry I can't help you more specifically. Maybe someone that's used them will chime in.

I used clips on my wheels from a 77 f250. Never had one fall off yet. I can get more pictures later of the clips. :-drink,Doug.

Muppy, yes please share information about which clips you used. I tried using VW ones, and some 60's GM or Corvair ones and neither would work on my test wheel.
Really excited to know there might be a way to get them pretty wheel caps on my truck! The caps are sitting on a shelf waiting for me to figure out a way to attach them. Tom |
What about using a 1/4 inch wheel spacer?
As an FYI - my OEM wheels aren't hitting my calipers... I bought the kit from TSM, and it's a 49 F2 |
Im gonna speculate that a set of the 17.5 x 5.25 Budd 73240s or 70720s would clear your calipers. Optional on F-250s from 1956 to 1966. Accept stock hub caps. While Ive never tried them with disc brake conversions, I know first hand that they clear the big 14 rear Lockheed drums on early F-3s. Your 55 has 12 rear drums. They would use 8-17.5 tires that are about the same diameter as 7.50-16ers. Stu
