My Truck won't engage gear until 200 rpm
 

Hello all, I hope this is the correct thread to post this, I have a 1998 F250. I just put new timing changes and oil pump. I took the oil pan off, I took the valve covers off and of course, the timing cover. I put everything back together and I turned the key to turn it on. It started right away, it is idling really nice, but then when I put it in reverse gear, it didn't move until the rpm went to about 200, then it engage. I put it in drive and the same thing. I am scratching my head because am not sure if this has to do with the timing. This was my first timing job that I had ever done, but the engine turns on right away. Then, decided to take it around the block and once I pressed the gas and it reached 200 rpm, it engaged in gear and started driving, but I notice that once I let my foot of the gas pedal, it would do it again. Before I did the timing chain job, I didn't have any problems like this. Something to add here also, is that the truck had been sitting and not moved for about a year. I did some research and the only thing I found was that it may be low on transmission fluid. I am going to change the filter and put new fluid over the weekend. Any information would be greatly appreciated and thank you in-advance.

Wouldn’t think about it too much until the transmission fluid is full, as that may solve your problem

200 or 2,000 RPMs? Did you possibly dent or kink one of the cooling lines going to the radiator during the timing chain/ oil pump repair?

Thank you for replying alloro, oh sorry, 2000 rpm, I do remember placing my boot accidentally on the lines, hum, I will inspect the lines. I didn't think about that. I had done one final inspection before I had started it to make sure everything seemed in order, Thank you for pointing that out.
