stutter and shifting problem

my 94 f150 with 5.0 starts fine but on road it will bog down and not take gas then if you manually put shifter down in 2nd gear it will take gas fine but when you let off gas and put back up in drive it shifts out too fast into over drive and will not take gas. on freeway it will be running fine at 65 to 70 and then just bog down like it is flooding or not getting fire right then eventually it will pick back up and go again. any suggestions on the cause from anyone would be much appreciated. and is the shifting controlled by a sensor . thanks.

can you pull codes, (e.g. code reader or paperclip and check engine light flash), even if check engine light isn't on could still have stored codes, does check engine light flash or come on while driving and symptom shows up? f you dont have code reader, vjsimone posted link below to help get codes
