Injector inspection and rebuild
 

Hello, I have a 99.5 F350 and the injector seals are shot.
When I first got it I changed the fuel filter and there was quite a bit of sludge and mud in the bowl.
I cleaned it out but underneath the "stand pipe" there was evidence the dirt made it past the filter.
I cleaned it out and put a new filter and got the truck going but I lost a gallon of oil the other day into the fuel tank just iding it.
The truck has no power and a bad miss.
I plan on doing the icp and valve cover gaskets and looms next payday.


I did drop the tank and rebuilt the sending unit for the gauge and cleaned the 2 filters in the pick up, scrubbed the tank clean with soap and water and dried it out.

I'm going to rebuild the injectors but I'm worried about debris getting into them after I rebuild them.

Is there a method of cleaning the fuel passages in the engine?

Looks like a plan!
I just cant imagine rebuilding the injectors to just put them in with the grime in the passage ways.
This gives me a good idea where they are too.

And then inspect the passages after cleaning them with one of these:

If you do get in there with a brush or patch make sure you blow them out afterwords.

How would you do that? Remove banjo bolts and use compressed air? Instead of using a brush or gun patch could just fill with something like brake cleaner and then blow out?

I doubt if you can get to them in the F-Series, but there is one threaded plug on the back of each head for the fuel rails. Since my van's 7.3L fuel system is likely full of paint flakes, I plan to remove them and flush the entire fuel system.

Do you have algae?

I've never done it so I can't give a good 'how to' on it. Maybe just compressed air would do the trick. If you put anything in there to scrub with it's likely to leave loose particles behind that'll need to be removed. I would just leave them be unless they really needed to be scrubbed out.

I had to do something after replacing cups, that green stuff gets everywhere. Following the swab with a good blast of air and some flushing augments the cleaning job.

I dont think there was algae.
The tank had 80 liters of fuel (and oil) in it and thankfully its a plastic or composite type tank.
I already drained it, scrubbed it inside and out with dish soap and water, rinsed and dried it completely.

I then rebuilt the sending unit for the fuel gauge and cleaned the filters in the pick up and flushed all that out.

I gave the fuel away as I have no idea if it was tampered with or had water in it or what.
I just didn't want to risk putting it back in the tank.
You just never know if someone put bleach in the tank or what, too risky.
First thing I did was buy a locking cap.


I tried to replace the slip tank filter but it ended up breaking it right off the mount.
The devil salt brine has killed it.

This one shows what is gonna be critical.
that spray needs to be clear.
